CT: Competitive group set for It’s Binn Too Long

Karina Anna made the 2-1 favorite

After favorites held serve in the first two West Virginia-bred stakes for older runners, sophomore fillies take the stage tonight. A wide-open field of eight will contest the $75,000 It’s Binn Too Long at the one-turn dash distance of 4 1/2 furlongs at Charles Town Races.

Speed is always a dangerous weapon at this abbreviated trip, and several entrants bring plenty of it to the table.

Chief among them is Karina Anna, listed at 2-1 on the morning line, who has done little wrong in five starts. The Stephen Murdock trainee has won three times, including a pair of sharp scores locally this year, and owns tactical speed that should allow rider Reshawn Latchman to secure prime position early. Her most recent victory going longer suggests she can finish as well as she starts, a valuable combination in a race likely to be decided quickly – as long as the last-out two-turn outing hasn’t dulled her early zip.

Edy’s Flame (5-2) looms a major player for high-percentage trainer Anthony Farrior. A three-time winner at Charles Town, she exits a tougher stake against older fillies and mares where she made mild late progress after a wide trip. Two starts back she delivered a strong allowance win at this distance, and her slightly more patient running style could prove effective if the early fractions get heated.

The accomplished Maskedandmummed (6-1) brings one of the deeper résumés in the field, having captured a pair of stakes last season, including the West Virginia Futurity. Though winless in two tries at tonight’s distance, she has consistently faced stakes company and could benefit from a return off the layoff if she adapts to the rapid-fire sprint conditions.

Truth and Justice (9-2) is another with back class and early lick. She has hit the board in eight of ten starts and was second in a recent allowance after setting the pace. Her consistency makes her a logical contender, though she’ll need to hold off multiple pace rivals in the lane.

Among the more lightly raced runners, God’s Pride (8-1) is intriguing off a debut romp at this distance, while Cappuccino Crunch (10-1) hasn’t been worse than third in three career starts.

Rounding out the field, Priority One and My Girl Bridgit both possess early speed but will need to rebound from subpar efforts last time out.
