Charles Town cancels Jan. 30 card, moves up Jan. 31
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has canceled its Friday card because of what the track called “extremely cold temperatures.”
But it plans to run Saturday and has moved the post time up to 2:00 p.m. rather than the normal 7:00.
The Friday temperature is projected to be in the teens all evening and to feel like it’s below 10 degrees. Saturday, the track hopes, will be different.
“Like everyone in the racing community, we’ve been incredibly frustrated with Mother Nature’s relentless cold this week,” said Charles Town’s Director of Racing Operations Charlie McIntosh. “That said, the forecast shows a small but workable window on Saturday where wind chills should stay at or above 10 degrees, giving us a real opportunity to get back to racing. To make the most of it, we’re moving our Saturday post time up to 2 p.m. ET. This adjustment maximizes daylight and milder conditions so we can safely complete the full card. We’re grateful for the patience of our horsemen, horseplayers, and fans, and we’re excited to finally deliver some live racing action this weekend.”
If the track does race Saturday, it will be the first time since Jan. 23 after four consecutive cancellations.
