Mid-Atlantic three stars: January 19, 2026
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. Quint’s Brew won the Jennings Stakes for the second consecutive year at Laurel Park on Saturday. Unlike last year’s demolition, he didn’t secure this year’s victory until the final jump. He rated off the early pace, set by Blue Kingdom and Maclean’s Rook, and remained in third at the top of the stretch while the aforementioned two battled. Blue Kingdom eventually dispatched of Maclean’s Rook and opened up a clear advantage, but Quint’s Brew began to get into gear and closed into the margin. In the last jump, under vigorous urging from Yedsit Hazlewood, Quint’s Brew prevailed by a nose. He ran a mile on a fast track in 1:37.37 and improved to 5-for-9 lifetime, never finishing outside of the exacta, with earnings of $421,240. He’s a homebred for Paul Berube and Karen Linnell, who co-own him with Heather Hunter, and is trained by Ned Allard.
SECOND STAR: POINT DUME. A competitive field of nine older male sprinters lined up in the Fire Plug Handicap later on Laurel’s Saturday card. Point Dume, one of three horses sent off at 3-1, lasted on the lead to win by a half-length. He made his way to the rail and the lead from post position two, but was instantly collared by Full Moon Madness from his outside, and the two engaged in battle up the backstretch. At the top of the lane, Full Moon Madness put his head in front, while Chipotle loomed large in the four-path and On the Mark looked ready to run from the inside. Despite a bevy of challenges on all sides, Point Dume dug in and fended everyone off. He won by a half-length over Chipotle, then lasted through a claim of foul against him by On the Mark, who ended up fifth. He’s now won three of his last five starts and boosted his career earnings to $431,900. He’s owned by Bush Racing Stable, trained by Tim Kreiser, and ridden by Angel Cruz.
THIRD STAR: TAKETHEMONEYHONEY. The first big race of the day at Laurel on Saturday, the Geisha Stakes, featured little drama. As expected, Takethemoneyhoney demolished the field, winning by 6 1/4 lengths under a hand ride. She took the early lead, but was kept off the rail by Late Night Call, who pressed the pace from her inside. As they rounded the far turn, Takethemoneyhoney finally made her way over to the rail and opened up a long lead without being asked. She hit the wire in 1:38.81 for a mile, with Navani rallying for second and Late Nite Call holding third. Takethemoneyhoney is now 6-for-8 lifetime, with her two defeats coming in photo finishes, and has earned $311,770. She’s a homebred for Kasey K Racing Stable LLC, Michael Day, and Final Turn Racing Stable, trained by Michael Moore, and ridden by Eliseo Ruiz.
LAUREL PARK
FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. He’s already defended his Jennings title; now he looks well-prepped to defend his General George title as well.
SECOND STAR: POINT DUME. Called on all his class and heart for the Fire Plug victory.
THIRD STAR: TAKETHEMONEYHONEY. After her impressive Geisha win, she may be Barbara Fritchie-bound.
CHARLES TOWN
FIRST STAR: RESTLESS. Stalked the pace and kicked clear late to win a first-level dash on Thursday for his ninth career victory in 30 starts.
SECOND STARS: RONNEY BROWN AND KEVIN JOY. Both trainers turned hat tricks this week; Brown on Wednesday, Joy on Saturday.
THIRD STAR: OMAR COMIN. Won a first-level route by 4 1/2 lengths on Friday, for his third win in his last six starts.
PARX RACING
FIRST STAR: SHADOW SURGE. Absolutely demolished a starter optional claiming field on Tuesday, winning by 11 lengths in the very sharp time of 1:16.21 for 6 1/2 furlongs.
SECOND STAR: WARP NINE. Sat off the pace on the rail and converted to win a second-level route on Wednesday.
THIRD STAR: PERIDOT PENDANT. Lasted through an early duel to win a first-level sprint on Tuesday, improving to 7-for-17 lifetime in the process.
