TODAY’S PICKS

R1: 3-8-2-5

R2: 7-3-5-2

R3: 10-4-5-9

R4: 2-4-1-6

#2 Midnight Ride has run a bunch of good races, finishing second or third in all four starts, which is both the good news and the bad: good because, hey, he’s competitive at this level, and bad because, when’s he gonna win? We’ll give him one more crack based on the quality of opposition he’s faced and the potential that he might offer a bit of value… #4 Vekoma Moon comes from the powerful Gary Capuano barn, which wins at a nearly-50% clip with 2yo firsters in special weight company; sire Vekoma is a super win-early influence… #1 Matsuyama ran OK on debut with a bit of trip trouble behind a 4-5 winner…

R5: 5-9-14-12

We have a (possibly cockamamie) theory that horses running in races that do not receive a Beyer fig (because there were no comparables on the day) may be undervalued next out; #5 Pinner ran decently on debut, mounting a middle move before tiring in late stages and can improve second time out… #9 Springtime Diva gets blinkers on for her second time on turf an evenish fourth in a Virginia restricted race… #14 Yo Stella looked home and dry in latest before settling for second…

R6: 6-2-8-4

R7: 6-8-14-13

#6 Eachpeachpearplum is likely the controlling speed in this contest, and we’re hoping she catches a bit firmer course than the yielding ground she saw in latest; since breaking her maiden, she has a first and a second in two route tries on good ground… #8 El Ma’any already has three wins — most of her rivals have two — and retains leading rider Paco Lopez… #14 Stay In Tune shifts into the hard-hitting Gallegos barn… #13 Somme River loses the blinkers after a bland outing in latest…

R8: 2-3-7-5

R9: 3-7-6-8
