Delaware Park picks and analysis: May 30, 2026
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:20 P.M.
- NUMBER OF RACES: 9
RACE 1: 5-1-6-4
#5 Work Hard easily beat $20k claimers in latest and has been first or second in six of nine tries at this distance; the expected lively pace plays to his advantage, and trainer Capuano loves to use apprentice riders, like the 7-pound bug Rosario… If any of these sneak away on the front end, it’s likely to be #1 Masakado, who’s won two straight in starter company going two turns… #6 Lucky Dude beat starter foes twice over the winter and arrives off an allowance win at Parx; likely to be mid-pack early and trying to mow them down late under Pennington…
RACE 2: 3-4-2-1
#3 Awesome Entry made a strong middle move in latest before flattening out a bit in the lane but may appreciate not being drawn on the rail in this spot… We usually try to avoid picking too many horses exiting the same race, but since all six here ran in the same May 16 contest, we won’t by shy about using #4 Sincerito, who, like Awesome Entry, doesn’t win much and did finish ahead of that rival in latest but earned a career-top Beyer fig (at age 5) in that race; not sure we expect a repeat, but… #2 Silent Roar led a long way in latest before tiring in the final furlong and may look for a similar trip here…
RACE 3: 4-11-6-1
#4 Goldinthesky makes his first start in the Nunez barn after several on synthetic and one prior turf try; that lone turf try was pretty good, as he encountered traffic on the far turn, tipped out into the middle of the course, rallied willingly and galloped out in front; cleaner trip could get it done today… #11 Tug pressed a fast pace two back in his turf bow before fading; the horse setting that quick tempo, Brockton, came to graduate next out… #6 It’s Electric ran faster against better than these when last seen last summer but has been away since July 2025 and plummets from maiden special to the lowest local maiden claiming on turf after being gelded; that last is an unfortunate but telling development for a full brother to G1 winner Colonel Liam…
RACE 4: 9-4-6-1
#9 Winter’s Ghost easily beat similar three back and now returns to a level where he can compete after a couple of off-color outings against better and might get a solid pace to run into… #4 Kerness is one of those who should be providing some early zip, though last out in his return from several months away, he got cooked on the front end and tired; leading trainer Ness doesn’t drop despite the poor outing, a good sign, but with other speed signed on, this one’ll need to have running shoes on… #6 Be Better arrives off a win against lesser that’s produced two next-out winners…
RACE 5: 3-8-2-10
#3 Ejtimaa, a Shadwell-bred, has kept exceptional company of late, finishing behind stakes winner Reagan’s Wit and Grade 3-placed Mesero in his last couple, and while this group is no cakewalk, there’s no one of that caliber here… First off the claim for veteran #8 Crabs N Beer, shifting back into the barn of Keri Brion, where he had his greatest success including a runner-up finish in the G3 Dinner Party in 2024; Brion peels off the blinks… #2 Malibu Mambo has his moments…
RACE 6: 7-8-3-4
With a bunch of speed signed on, the pace scenario is something of a concern for our top choice, but it’s also true that #7 Double Edge Sword has been a consistent hard hitter, running first and second against similar at the Fair Grounds in late winter; should be right on the engine from outer gate…#8 Torpedo Run will be outfooted early and try to reel ’em in late; likely to be too far back to pick them all up and may be using this as a prep, but might get desired pace setup… #3 Ikigai is another speed burner and beat similar two back before finishing a close-up fourth in latest…
RACE 7: 11-13-3-12
#11 Italiano Kid makes his third start off the bench and followed a win against two-life company with an even try against allowance foes; now dropped back into the claiming ranks, he can take another step forward and should sit a good trip… #13 Fridayswithmurray was stymied along the rail when a troubled third two back and then showed little on the main track; should appreciate returning to the lawn… #3 Owhatanite makes his third start off the bench and has competitive tries against similar… This is a wide-open race, so spreading will make sense if playing multi-race wagers…
RACE 8: 5-9-7-6
Favored #5 Haulin Ice looks like a handful in this spot, the $100,000 Rehoboth Stakes. The Saffie Joseph, Jr. trainee, an earner of over $1.2 million, is a multiple graded stakes winner who has easily won her last two on dirt, and while she has plenty of early speed and will want to be involved from the jump, her past performances suggest she doesn’t have to have the lead. If there’s one question, it’s that she ran a clunker last out on the turf, so it’s possible that’s a harbinger of declining form, but that was a tough group of turf specialists, so we’re inclined to give her a pass… Trainer Gary Capuano may well pass on this spot with #9 Onyx Ten, who’s been off since a disappointing outing in the state-restricted Politely in December. But if she does post, she’s an interesting contender, likely at a price (12-1 morning line). With plenty of speed signed on, she might get a chance to unleash her closing kick, as she did in winning last year’s Wide Country, Xtra Heat, and Maryland Million Distaff. Drawn outside, she should be able to avoid trouble and come running late… #7 Beyond Belief is graded stakes-placed and in her last two has finished behind Grade 1 winner R Disaster and Grade 3-placed Evanescence, so she’s certainly been keeping the right company. The distance may be an inch short to use her in the top spot — she’s 0-for-4 but has been second or third in all four at the trip — but it’d be no surprise if she got a piece of it… Veteran #6 Carmelina is closing in on $600,000 banked and enters off a win in the state-restricted Unique Bella at Parx Racing, her second consecutive win in that event…
RACE 9: 5-1-6-3
#5 Anderman has been competitive against better in New York and now takes a multi-level drop, with connex likely looking to win and sell all at once… #1 Driven by Magic had a slightly troubled start in his debut before tiring in late stages; even modest improvement in his second career start makes him a player… #6 Bodine likewise makes his second career start, this time in the Nazario barn after the claim, and closed nicely on debut for fourth…
