Charles Town picks and analysis: May 9, 2026
RACE 1: 2-4-5-6
#2 Honor the Bull ran credibly enough last out when third against $50,000 maiden claimers at the Big A, though that was over a year ago; he switches now into the Siculietano barn after a good enough worktab, has been gelded since that latest, and gets the trainer’s local go-to rider up… #4 Keen Talent may go favored in his first start since being claimed by trainer Farrior, who has eight wins from 22 starts first off the claim in special weight company; like our top choice, has been gelded and gets trainer’s go-to rider in Bocachica in the irons… #5 Pollcy Change won the pace duel in latest but could not contain rival who sat a good trip…
RACE 2: 7-1-6-3
#7 Ragtime Scribble makes his third start off the bench for Runco (29% third after a layoff with a slightly positive ROI) and retains Bocachica after a bit of a middle move in latest; best would be sufficient and shouldn’t be too far off the pace… Just an OK try in latest for #1 York Tavern, but he has some decent efforts to run back to, though 1-for-32 ledger at age 7 makes him hard to love at a likely lowish price… #6 Paramount’s Pick threw down the fastest quarter of any horse in the race in latest when making a second quarter move to contention before tiring…
RACE 3: 6-4-2-1
Old veteran #6 Social Chic padded his half-million dollar bankroll with a win in his first after getting claimed back by trainer Runco, who rarely claims, and could sit a good trip with some speed signed on to aim at… The speed figs for #4 Youthinkthatsfunny are the best in the group, and he’s run plenty of races that’ll win here, but it seems worth noting that it’s 16 races since he crossed the wire first, which isn’t ideal for a horse who might go favored… #2 Big Joe B ran on late last out to be third behind Social Chic and may be forging back to better form…
RACE 4: 4-2-7-5
#4 Moonlit Notion enters off a win in latest — his eighth in 14 career starts — and could get a good trip sitting just off the ultra-speedy #2 Super Kick… That runner threw down a blazing 21 2/5 first quarter in his first local start and was tons the best from there and is lightly raced enough that improvement still a distinct possibility… #7 Pork Chop Pete has battled all the toughest one-turn types on the grounds, last out finishing three behind Duncan Idaho in the It’s Only Money, and finished ahead of our top choice four back…
RACE 5: 3-6-4-5
#3 Great Fiber didn’t make the races until age four but had a very promising debut April 18 when chasing 7-10 favorite Flight Level and well clear for the place; trainer Grams is 7-for-15 with second starters in the money on debut… Two of #6 Jumping Jada’s siblings won first out, and this one is by $7500 sire Mo Town; Collins barn off to a good start this year… #4 Beautiful Noise makes her bow for owner-breeder-trainer Brown… #5 Ain’t No Angel is a half to $381,000 earner Fancy Concho…
RACE 6: 5-3-7-9
#5 Blameitonmyroots has had a couple of relatively tough beats in his last two; two back he was outfooted early before finishing nicely on the outside for second and galloping out in front of the winner, while last out he slipped through inside but was bumped twice by the winner in the lane; a clean trip is what the doctor’s ordering… #3 Legendary Sky was in the mix until late last out against better, and Brown’s go-to rider in Santaella remains aboard… #7 Arie Ferrari took money at the windows in his first try against winners but faded from the scene; lightly raced sort can bounce back in this easier spot…
RACE 7: Coin Collector Stakes
5-3-11-10
#5 Tricks R for Juba enjoyed a useful return to action two weeks ago when beating allowance foes at this one-turn trip despite a slow break; likely to be a force in two-turn races down the road a bit, but there’s no reason he can’t scoop this up along the way… #3 The Big Lep showed promise in his debut win at Timonium last summer before scuffling through the remainder of the year, but he’s been in fine form recently and enters off consecutive wins; plenty of early speed… #11 Ryan’s Run may not draw in — he’s the lone AE — but certainly was impressive in his debut, has been gelded since, and make note of the 4/24 bullet work — it was nearly two seconds faster than the next fastest… #10 Irish Jubalee appears to be more of a two-turn horse than a dash horse, but he does own a win — and did record his career-best Beyer speed fig — going one turn in his second career start…
RACE 8: 2-4-7-5
It’ll be the first time to race on dirt and first in the Joy barn for #2 Ur Fabulous, whose two turf tries haven’t been great but did take place against tougher at Aqueduct and the Fair Grounds; the breeding says dirt should fit her fine, and how about that bullet move — it was a full second faster than any other work that day… #4 Apicturesworth makes her career bow for trainer Ollie Figgins; one of her three sibs to race won first out, and she has a decent worktab behind her… #7 Jane N Margo makes her debut here, as well, this for trainer Kevin Joy; the daughter of Frosted is a half to two first-out winners, but Joy trainees typically need a race or two to be at their best…
