Timonium schedules 7-day live meet
Big T meet ends on Labor Day
For a brief stretch each summer, the grandstand at Maryland State Fairgrounds comes alive with a throwback to another era of racing — the live race meet at Timonium, affectionately known as the “Big T.”
The Timonium meet stands apart as the only remaining fair meet for Thoroughbred racing in the eastern United States, a distinction that underscores both its rarity and its enduring appeal. Once a much longer stand — at its peak featuring as many as 42 days of live racing — Timonium has, for many years now, settled into a compact schedule aligned with the annual Maryland State Fair.

In 2026, that tradition continues with seven days of live racing set for Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30, and again Friday, September 4 through Labor Day Monday, September 7, the Fair announced. Each day’s card begins at 12 noon, offering fans a midday mix of sport, nostalgia, and summer fair atmosphere.

Despite its abbreviated schedule, the Timonium meet delivers a distinctive experience. The tight turns and bullring layout create competitive, often unpredictable racing, while the fairgrounds setting brings fans closer to the action than at larger tracks. It’s a place where longtime horseplayers rub shoulders with families taking in their first race, all amid the sights and sounds of the fair.
Fans can watch and wager from the grandstand, the Timonium OTB or Costas Inn Timonium restaurant — or, of course, from home via advance deposit wagering. First post will be 12 noon daily.
