“The Hazlewood Express keeps on rolling along at Laurel Park,” exclaimed track announcer Dave Rodman.

Another day, another three winners for teenage apprentice riding sensation Yedsit Hazlewood, who started his huge Sunday by booting home Wild Warrior ($5) for trainer Gary Capuano in the co-featured second race, a $49,000 first-level allowance for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.

Wild Warrior, a chestnut colt by Improbable, was bred in Kentucky by Titletown Racing Stables and BRS. Campaigned by Rose Petal Stable, he notched his career debut racing one mile at Delaware Park on Oct. 18.

Wild Warrior then finished behind Bala de Plata in his next two starts, and faced that rival once again this afternoon. Favored Bala de Plata displayed his usual early speed from the advantageous inside post position, but Hazlewood wouldn’t allow him to get too far in front.

Wild Warrior engaged Bala de Plata at the seven-sixteenths pole, and the pair scrapped for the next quarter mile before the former asserted his dominance for good. Wild Warrior raced the distance in 1:50.18 over the fast main track while winning by 2 ¾ lengths over Bala de Plata.

Hazlewood next struck in the fifth race as Devastating ($5) wore down the leaders in her first start for trainer Robbie Bailes. He completed his hat trick in the finale by making a wide brushing move on the second turn aboard My Dear Antonia ($4.20).

Hazlewood, 17, a leading candidate for the 2025 Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey, has ridden at least one winner on each of the last 22 racing cards at Laurel Park.

A native of Panama, Hazlewood holds a comfortable lead in the current Laurel Park jockey standings. Hazlewood concluded the week with 62 meet winners, 28 more than veteran Jorge Ruiz.

Hazlewood rode his first career winner on April 4 and now has 116 victories from 522 rides, including five stakes scores. He won four races on the prestigious Jim McKay Maryland Million program and has enjoyed two additional four-win days since that coming-out party. His mounts have earned $3,881,477 in 2025.

Thirty-one of those victories came when partnered with Capuano, who has saddled the winners of 22 juvenile races this year.

Wild Warrior boasts career earnings of $72,950.
