LRL: Phlying Phyllis aims to extend streak in Sunday feature
On the Mark returns running; Hazlewood streak at 21
Phlying Phyllis will look to keep her career-opening streak intact in Sunday’s Laurel Park feature, a $49,000 first-level allowance for older fillies and mares going seven furlongs.
The sophomore Coal Front filly, trained by Gary Capuano for Rose Petal Stable LLC, has been first or second in all four starts in her career and most recently was a narrow starter allowance winner at Delaware Park Oct. 1.

All of that’s assuming racing takes place. With snow and rain in the forecast, chatter at the track has centered on whether it will.
If conditions cooperate, Phlying Phyllis appears well positioned to make the jump into open N1X company. She has already proven effective on both fast and wet dirt, and her recent Delaware victory showed her ability to sit just off the pace before grinding her way past rivals in the lane. Capuano has been especially effective with horses coming off wins and with allowance runners overall, and the filly carries five-pound apprentice Yedsit Hazlewood.

Phylying Phyllis is 4-1 on the morning line.
Greek Heiress is the 5-2 morning line favorite. A six-time winner with early speed who figures to be prominent from the outset, she enters off a couple of off-color outings but has plenty of strong outings on the page.
Claimed earlier this fall by Lacey Gaudet, the Kantharos mare owns back class that exceeds most of the field and has been competitive in tough spots at Churchill Downs and Ellis Park. If she clears early under Forest Boyce, she could prove difficult to reel in.
Others with potential include Love You More (3-1), who finally broke through at Laurel last out and now tries winners for Horacio De Paz, and Vanilla Sundae (9-2), a Gun Runner filly from the Brittany Russell barn whose back races when in Todd Pletcher’s barn hint at upside cutting back in distance.
Old Bay (8-1) brings consistency and local experience, while Shine On Moon (9-2) returns to dirt after doing most of her best work on turf.
The allowance feature is the seventh race on an eight-race program. Post time for the card is 12 noon.
SATURDAY RACING NOTES Heavy favorite Cattivo Ragazzo broke through the gate and ran off a bit prior to Saturday’s featured seventh race, a second-level allowance/optional claimer. Gathered up and brought back to the gate, he ran third, while On the Mark ($4.60), with Tais Lyapustina up, won for owner-trainer Joanne Shankle. It was On the Mark’s first start following a five-month freshening. “He was ready,” Shankle said. “He runs hard every time. He tries.”
Shankle also won the third race with On a Proud Note ($4.60). JG Torrealba was in the irons…
Fear Nothing ($11.20) took the fifth race for owner-trainer Hamilton Smith with bug rider Yedsit Hazlewood took the sixth race. It marked Hazlewood’s 21st consecutive racing day at Laurel Park with at least one win…
