Delaware Park picks and analysis: September 18, 2025
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:30 P.M.
- NUMBER OF RACES: 9
RACE 1
| 3. Honor Bright | $850,000 first-timer is a half to four graded stakes winner and three runners who won on debut; barn can win first out, and this miss appears to have worked in company with first-out winner Luv Your Neighbor |
| 6. Techstar | Latest was not good, but debut when second to Jumping the Gun — who’s been the killer among the local 2yo fillies — was excellent |
| 4. Miss Fulton Gal | Earned a big fig in good debut outing when second to 2-5 Embrace the Moment; that runner’s follow-up in a CD stake was poor, however |
RACE 2
| 3. English Daddy | First in the Gorham barn (20% with a positive ROI first off the claim), and looks to be controlling speed with JRod up |
| 6. Lil Sebastian | Outmatched in latest but returns to the sort of company where he fits in first for new trainer Strauss |
| 5. Prime Motive | Field’s only three-time winner will look to run ’em all down late in first in Simone barn |
RACE 3
If on dirt: 11-6-9
| 3. Companion | Had to pause awaiting room near the top of the lane in debut and ran on thereafter; feels like that may have been a tightener for longer races like this one |
| 6. Candy Moonshine | Ran too well to lose last out in turf bow but ducked in at the gap, costing herself the race; galloped out in front, and repeat might be enough |
| 9. Ambiance | Stidham firster for Godolphin is out of a G3-placed mare |
RACING NOTES
- Jockey Julio Hernandez won three on Sunday, including two of the day’s four $100,000 races, striking on Howgreatisnate ($6.80) with a late rally and on Jumping the Gun ($2.20), who was tons the best. Both are trained by Andy Simoff for Imaginary Stables…
- Yedsit Hazlewood won a pair Sunday…
- Along with Simoff, trainer Gary Capuano took two $100,000 races (and very nearly a third). Capuano won with Onyx Ten ($7.20), with Hazlewood up, and with First State Dash winner Probably Dreaming ($6.80) with Carlos Lopez…
- Trainer Steve Klesaris also won twice, including with Picture This ($30.40) in a $73,000 Delaware certified allowance. Jose Batista was in the irons…
RACE 4
| 2. Judith’s Cross | Arrives off a win and could be speed of the speed for a barn having a productive meet; likely pace pressure would be Bossyness, but it’s hard to know what to do with that runner after she was cooked in a 51-second half-mile at the Big T |
| 7. Mikey’s Jewel | Has been in pretty good form since barn switch a few starts back and arrives off a sharp score |
| 6. Penny Polka | Nice-looking win here in early July and three since have all been either versus much better, on wet surfaces, or both |
RACE 5
If on dirt: 1-9-3
| 2. Chez Soleil | Three back outing was good enough to win here, and this one has enough early lick to be in a good spot throughout; two back came versus much better at much longer, and in latest, top two finishers were last and second-last early |
| 14. Gogo Chanel | Gonna be a handful if drawing in but will have to work out a trip from the outer post; has finished not far behind repeat winners in last two, and two back outing produced four next-out winners |
| 5. Bramble Bush | Will need to step it up in third off the bench but appears capable; arrives in good form |
| 1. Recognize Me | Late-running sort has throttled lesser on the main track in last couple, so confidence won’t be a problem; wondering if enough pace will materialize to get her home |
RACE 6
| 7. Cahira’s Song | Drops into logical spot after a couple of bland outings; not far removed from a race that wins here and has seen some tough rivals in recent allowance tries including $375k auction purchase Conch Fried Rice and now-8-time allowance or allowance/optional claimer winner Cuz Ur Pretty |
| 1. Don’t Fool With Me | Guessing she gets bet down from here off useful return to action; every right to improve in second off the bench and second with Lasix |
| 3. Unicycle | Tries main track in the afternoon for the first time; dam was a Minnesota-bred stakes winner on dirt and siblings have done best work sprinting on the dirt |
RACE 7
If on dirt: 13-1-7
| 8. Hidden Motive | Multi-level drop from special weight company |
| 13. My Vacation | Half to a G3-placed turfer ran OK in first on the lawn and shifts into hard-hitting Delgado barn; may opt to wait for MED spot |
| 5. Alrasikh | Beaten at odds-on in two straight; grinding run in latest came up a bit short on a day in which all three turf races were won wire-to-wire |
| 4. Kitten’s Ploy | Best outings are competitive |
RACE 8
| 9. Peridot Pendant | Can’t be in any better form than this miss is; plenty of speed and drawn outside, ought to be able to take it to speed rivals |
| 2. Opposite the Crowd | Just a couple removed from a race that wins here and switches into productive Barboza barn; ought to get a lively pace in front of her |
| 1. Ritabook | Saw two-race win streak snapped in latest but finished in the top three for sixth straight time; will be on the engine early and trying to fend off other speedy types |
RACE 9
| 4. Nat Gas | Wouldn’t want to go too crazy on this one if the odds get driven down in first since June; makes first start since being gelded; not worried about poor turf outing at 112-1, but the drop in for a tag without giving the dirt allowance one shot is an aggressive move |
| 6. Boyd’s Band | Toss the turf try and this guy hasn’t run a bad race this year; should be a bit off the early pace and looking to make a run |
| 1. Messi the Great | Speedster throttled cheaper maidens to graduate after troubled first local outing; let’s see how he handles the rise in company |
