Mid-Atlantic three stars: September 15, 2025
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: TOUPIE. Laurel Park hosted a trio of grass stakes races on Saturday. The first one, the Stormy Blues Stakes, went to Toupie by 1 1/4 lengths. She won the Las Cienegas Stakes earlier this year, and was a two-time stakes winner last year, but had missed the board in her last four races. She bounced back in the Stormy Blues, closing with a flourish to win going away after racing in midpack early on. She ran the distance over a firm grass course in 1.08.63, improving her career record to 6-2-1 in 15 starts with earnings of 450,805. She’s a Kentucky-bred homebred for Wertheimer and Frere, trained by Graham Motion and ridden by Daniel Centeno.
SECOND STAR: DRIPPING GOLD. Monmouth Park hosted their final open stakes race of the season, the Presious Passion Stakes at 1 1/2 miles on the grass, on Saturday. Dripping Gold, the 4-5 favorite, had to work for it, but he ultimately prevailed by three-quarters of a length. He sat a great trip off the leaders in the early stages, then made his move on the final of three turns. However, Hardspun Reason and Lord Eddard Stark wouldn’t let him go by without a fight, and they battled down the stretch. Dripping Gold got the better of his rivals late, with Hardspun Reason second and Summer Cause rallying for third. Samy Camacho was aboard the winner for owners West Point Thoroughbreds, NBS Stable, and Titletown Racing Stable, and trainer Shug McGaughey.
THIRD STAR: NO SHOW SAMMY JO. Motion trainee No Show Sammy Jo repeated in Saturday’s All Along Stakes at Laurel Park, capturing the 1 ⅛-mile event by a nose over stablemate Sirona. The pair sat in third and second, respectively, early on, while longshot Cut From Class set the pace. They swarmed in on the early leader as they turned for home, and engaged in an exciting stretch battle. No Show Sammy Jo ultimately prevailed to secure her second consecutive All Along title, defeating Sirona in that one’s American debut. The winner is owned by Bridlewood Farm and Madaket Stables LLC and ridden by Jorge Ruiz.
