We catch up on the latest jockey and trainer statistics from Delaware Park. Who’s hot (and not)?
As the meet goes on, we’ll focus on total wins, added wins (above what odds would have predicted), and percentage of purse earned. In these early weeks, though, our stats will be simpler.
The numbers:
DELAWARE PARK JOCKEYS
Julio Hernandez was the week’s hot hand, booting home five winners from 11 mounts to keep his summer surge rolling. Martin Chuan and Jamie Rodriguez each added three victories, while Gabriel Maldonado won twice… In all, 13 different riders picked up wins.
On the season, Rodriguez still leads the standings with 54 wins, though Hernandez (48) has closed the gap and Chuan (42) continues to have a strong season… Kevin Gomez (21 wins) and Maldonado (19) round out the top five…
When it comes to added wins—a metric that compares a jockey’s actual wins against what the betting odds would have projected—Chuan has a meet-best +11.54. Jose Batista (+7.48) and Hernandez (+7.46) are close behind, with Maldonado (+5.33) and Jorge Ruiz (+4.50) are also among the top five. The range of all riders is 11.54 to (-8.98)…
In terms of purse share, Ruiz tops the standings at a lofty 37.3% in relatively limited local action (10-for-26)… Likewise, Paco Lopez and Samuel Marin both are logging more than 30% of available purse moneys… Julio Hernandez leads the riders who have made Delaware their home track this meet, pulling in 22.3% of purse money…

DELAWARE PARK TRAINERS
Jamie Ness kept the winners coming last week, adding three more from seven starters to lift his meet-leading total to 53. He continues to tower over the standings, nearly quadrupling the next-closest conditioner.
Kieron Magee was perfect with a 2-for-2 week, the only other trainer to win multiple races… In all, 18 different trainers reached the winner’s circle.
For the season, Ness holds a commanding lead with 53 wins. Bruce Kravets (14), Michael Stidham (13), and Victor Carrasco Jr. (12) all are in double digits, while Michael Simone, Michael Gorham, and Greg Compton are tied for fifth with nine wins…
In terms of added wins—the measure comparing actual results to what odds would predict—Ness also leads with +9.30. Carrasco Jr. (+4.33) and Kravets (+3.84) follow, with Christopher Seale (+3.27) and Graham Motion (+2.43) also outperforming expectations... The range of all trainers is 9.30 to (-4.40)…
On purse share, Gonzalez sets the pace at 41.5%, thanks to his 4-for-8 mark at the meet. Motion (34.4%) follows, with Carrasco Jr. (26.4%), Annette Eubanks (26.2%), and Ness (25.4%) rounding out the top five…
