Timonium kicks off brief stand Friday
The 2024 Timonium meet kicks off Friday with a nine-race program, and Saturday brings the lone stake of the seven-day stand.
Friday’s card features races at every one of Timonium’s typical distances, with three four-furlong dashes, and two races each at 6 ½ furlongs, one mile, and 1 1/16 miles. The route distances are contested around three turns, while the longer sprint is a two-turn contest.
Saturday is College Day at the Races, with a race card highlighted by the $75,000 Shine Again Stakes for fillies and mares that have never won a stake. Pennsylvania-bred Chapa, trained by Bernie Houghton, is the 9-5 morning line favorite and will have David Cora aboard.

The Saturday card also includes a pair of allowance/optional claimers going a mile.
Sunday’s card features a pair of allowance/optional claimers, including a tough three-other-than. Also on the card is a four-furlong maiden event for two-year-old fillies.
The following Friday is Maryland Hall of Fame day, at which two horses, Smart Angle and Caveat, will become the newest members of the Maryland Thoroughbred Hall of Fame.
Racing will take place this Friday through Sunday and the following Friday through Labor Day Monday. Post time will be 12:10 p.m.
