Elite riders impressed on both coasts this past week, with Paco Lopez and Umberto Rispoli sharing Jockeys’ Guild Jockey of the Week honors.

Riding between Parx Racing and Delaware Park, Lopez delivered a standout performance with 12 wins, including three stakes victories, earning a share of the Jockey of the Week title for June 9 through June 15.

The Jockey of the Week honor, voted on by a panel of racing experts and awarded by the Jockeys’ Guild, highlights top achievements among its more than 1,050 members. This week, the accolade was split between Lopez and California-based Umberto Rispoli following a rare tie in voting.

Lopez kicked off his week with two wins at Parx on Monday and Tuesday before heading south to Delaware Park. There, he picked up five more victories over Thursday and Friday.

But Saturday was Lopez’s crown jewel. After early wins in Races 2 and 3, he guided Malibu Beauty to a gate-to-wire score in the $150,000 Obeah Stakes. Trained by Gary Capuano, the 7-year-old mare posted a final time of 1:44.61 for 1 1/16 miles, fending off all comers in a gritty effort.

One race later, Lopez was back in the spotlight aboard Vote No in the 1 1/2-mile Cape Henlopen Stakes. Unhurried early, the 4-year-old gelding powered home with a sweeping rally down the center of the turf course, stopping the clock in 2:27.61 for trainer Kelsey Danner.

Lopez then returned to Parx on Sunday and put an exclamation point on his week with a front-running win aboard Carmelina in the $100,000 Unique Bella Stakes. The Butch Reid trainee romped by 2 1/2 lengths in a sharp 1:10.19 for six furlongs, giving Lopez his 12th win of the week and third stakes triumph.

Rispoli earned his share of the accolades with a 10-win week at Santa Anita. He capped the week off with a remarkable six-win Sunday.
