Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- RACES ON CARD: 10
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:35 p.m.
RACE 1
7. Conquest Dancer | Packed it in after taking brief lead in latest, but has been facing better |
1. Sandpiper Memories | Late-running sort might get optimal pace scenario; barely sneaks into condition |
3. Carroll Girl | Another who barely makes condition, she’s mostly faced better but will have to contend with pace pressure |
RACE 2
8. Silly Rabbit | Stuck with it despite trip trouble early and late and rewarded via DQ; trainer Motion has a strong record with last-out maiden winners |
4. Warning Signs | Has kept better company and galloped when dropped into maiden claiming ranks; that race produced three next-out winners |
7. Chevy Man | Claimed and put away at the end of last grass season, returned to score and runner-up Koru graduated at LRL June 13 |
RACE 3
5. Firmantown | Won two of three and finished third in tough heat at PIM; could be speed of the speed and gets leading rider up |
3. Tojo’s Mojo | Gelded since stinker in latest; has kept better company and ability to run into pace may come in handy |
4. Boyd’s Band | Solid return to action |

RACE 4
5. Antisocial | Nothing wrong with outings to date on main track, now trying turf after several turf works; half-sis Keeper Ofthe Stars won a Grade 1 on the lawn |
13. Simulate | Makes first start since last July, when he graduated at the Spa at second asking; of the top seven to run back from that heat, six went one-two in their next starts; trainer Mott a good record off the bench |
1. Twain | Two good races to start his career, and nothing wrong with latest when he couldn’t go with 1-2 Reagan’s Wit but didn’t miss runner-up slot by much when clear of rest |
RACE 5 – ALAPOCAS RUN STAKES
6. Buccherino | Formful sort arrives off a win in the Mr. Prospector at MTH; well-drawn outside, can use ample early lick to best advantage |
1. Damon’s Mound | Though fast enough, in this speedy group may be on the chase, but with a bunch of speed signed on, that’s no problem; missed ’24 season after $500k ’23 |
3. Sunny Breeze | Hooked in a speed duel after vacation which saw top pair after a quarter finish last, second-to-last; best efforts contend |
RACING NOTES
- Jockeys Jaime Rodriguez and Paco Lopez each won twice on Thursday…
- Veteran trainer John Worsley got his first win of the meet when Little Crybaby ($10.00) won the opener, and eight different trainers scored…
- Warming ($3.40) got the money in the day’s featured allowance for sophomore fillies, flying home to make up over six lengths in the final furlong to win by a neck. Samuel Marin was in the irons for Graham Motion, and Warming is 2-for-3 in her career…
RACE 6 – OBEAH STAKES
7. Foxy Junior | Useful return to action sprinting, now stretching out to distance at which she’s 5-for-8; looks for stalk-and-pounce trip |
8. Malibu Beauty | Speedy 7yo returned running last out in first of season; should be part of the early vanguard and owns five wins over the strip |
5. Gun Song | G2 winner had a challenging opening half-mile in latest and was out of gas at the quarter-pole; recent form isn’t great, but somewhere in there is the filly who just missed versus champion Thorpedo Anna in the Cotillion |
RACE 7 – CAPE HENLOPEN STAKES
3. Kay Army | Well beaten in latest but winner came back to win the G1 Manhattan; this guy owns two wins at the 12-furlong trip and the right to improve in second off a 14-month break |
6. Harrow | Onetime $16,000 claim has outrun that and then some and gave credible account of himself in G3 McKnight at this distance |
5. Desvio | We know he likes this turf course since he won the Kent over it last year, and he ought to handle the added ground; arrives off a very good effort behind multiple graded winner Fort Washington in G3 Dinner Party |
RACE 8 – DELAWARE DERBY
6. Kentucky Outlaw | Working lights out since May 10 Long Branch win; repeated gate issues have dogged him, but in a race light on early foot they may prove less troubling here; should reach good stalking position and aim to take over from there |
3. Admiral Dennis | Has kept better company than these and gave a good account of himself when fourth in the G1 Blue Grass; they’ll need to hold him off late |
2. Academy | Good-looking score in dirt bow, though not sure yet what was behind him; trainer Motion has a 23% strike rate and positive ROI heading into stakes company with last-out maiden winners; might have the early lead, especially if #6 has usual gate problems |
RACE 9 – G3 DELAWARE OAKS
5. Paris Lily | Ran big when setting solid fractions and just failing in the G2 Black-Eyed Susan; slight cutback in distance a plus and ought to be sitting one-two again early in this one |
4. Margie’s Intention | Needed full stretch to run down Paris Lily last out after good trip; a little less ground here might lead to turned tables |
3. Complexity Jane | Speedy sort’s still undefeated |
RACE 10
4. Richard Feynman | Lone turf try pretty solid behind $210k Chad Brown shipper |
6. My Vacation | Win-early family and bred top and bottom for turf, now gets it |
5. Flamenco Star | Gelded for first try in nearly a year |
