RACE 1: MAIDEN CLAIMING $25,000, 3-6-YEAR-OLDS, 5 FURLONGS (GRASS)

9-1-2-11

#9 Locomotive (3-1) didn’t run a bad race in three grass starts last year. Last out, he battled on the pace and held on to finish third, and makes his first start since that mid-November effort. He can go to the lead or sit just off of it. #1 Z Bogdan (4-1) outran his 41-1 odds on debut last out. He was pressed on the pace from the rail and hung around the last eighth, in a race where the top three all sat perfect trips near the pace. He doesn’t have a great draw for a horse with his running style, but should nonetheless be a serious early presence. #2 Pretty Jimmy (8-1) showed improved form on grass between here and Colonial Downs last year, peaking at a career-best brisnet mark of 72 in his final grass race of the season in early November. He showed some late punch in his first start of the year last out, setting him up well for this race.

RACE 2: CLAIMING $20,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 6 FURLONGS

2-6-1-8

Arnaldo Bocachica and Anthony Farrior have already teamed up a few times at the Pimlico stand, and they’re back at it with #2 In My Memories (8-5). She’s been in quickly improving form in her last few starts, including a game runner-up effort from well off the pace at Mahoning Valley last out. While she’s burned a lot of money in her recent tries, she hasn’t looked this good on paper in a while. #6 Dine and Dash (4-1) has won in frontrunning fashion twice this year, with her only bad race coming when she faced a very strong allowance field at the Virginia Derby meet. Tais Lyapustina rode her three races ago, and now she’s back on the saddle. #1 Island Dream Girl (3-1) was third after a wide trip first off the Kieron Magee claim last out. Her form’s been somewhat in-and-out, but her best puts her in the mix with these.

RACE 3: CLAIMING $25,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)

4-3-6-7

#4 Keen Surge (8-1) ran a huge race to break his maiden at Tampa Bay Downs last out. He came from way off of moderate fractions to win over favored American Wind, who set the early pace. That rival came back to break his maiden at the same level on May 2. This one gets Lasix for the first time, and is one of two in here who hasn’t lost against winners. #3 Gatto Be Proud (4-1) has shown a good late kick on grass, and has faced better non-winners of two claimers in the recent past. #6 Baby Oscar (8-1) won the first grass race of the Maryland season in gate-to-wire fashion in his first start since September. He’s had a bullet workout since then, and will try to wire them again in his first try against winners.

RACE 4: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS, 1 1/16 MILES

4-7-3-6

#4 Superpower (3-1) was scratched out of the Private Terms Stakes, where he would’ve been one of the favorites, to run in a first-level race the next day. He got caught extremely wide from post 10 in a 1 1/16-mile race, but still finished a game third behind Just a Fair Shake, who ran a nice second in the Federico Tesio Stakes next out. Once again, Christophe Clement could’ve run him in the Sir Barton Stakes next week, but he’s back in against first-level rivals. Still, he’ll be tough to beat if he runs his usual race. #7 Amy’s Music (5-2) got second over Superpower in that March 23 race, and returns to dirt after a dull race on the Keeneland lawn last out. He has great early pace figures, and may be sent for speed despite his outside draw. He’s also the only one in the race to run in the 80s in each of his last three tries. #3 Tavern Time (5-1) also made his last start at Keeneland, and was claimed out of that maiden-breaking effort by Mike Pino. He ran a career-best 81 that day, and is trending in the right direction.

RACE 5: MAIDEN CLAIMING $16,000, 3-6-YEAR-OLDS, 5 FURLONGS (GRASS)

3-4-2-12

#3 Shane Falco (6-1) ran a respectable third with a 63 in his grass debut last October. He went to the sidelines for a bit after two flat tries on the Turfway Park synthetic over the winter, he’s worked three times since mid-April, and gets the nod in a soft bunch. #4 Agent Kelly (7-5) has vastly superior figures to these, having run in the 70s three times in his final four starts of last season. However, he’s burned up a lot of money while narrowly missing constantly. In seven grass starts, he’s finished second five times and third once. He might get there one of these days, but I don’t want to take a low price on him if and when he does. #2 Go to Bingo (8-1) gets class relief for his 3-year-old debut after facing more promising rivals for most of last year, and gets first-time Lasix.

RACE 6: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 6 FURLONGS

2-3-7-5

#2 Grayson’s Girl (5-2) was very impressive first off a nine-month layoff last out, rallying from downtown to break her maiden in a sea of slop. Runner-up Frosted Dreams returned to break her maiden next out going a mile. This one looked promising as a 2-year-old as well, and is eligible to turn in a very big performance. #3 Divine Works (8-1) ran a career-best 79 in her maiden-breaking win on the Virginia Derby undercard, her second start off a four-month break. She’s always had a lot of promise, and has worked well since going back to the worktab in late April. #7 Shkhara Fire (3-1) has hit the board in all five of her starts going six furlongs or shorter this year, but has yet to win. She’s run into nice horses in many of those races, and while she looks the best on paper, she’s looked the best on paper before, but gets beat by horses in ascending form. She’s a good horse to key underneath in exotics.

RACE 7: CLAIMING $25,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/8 MILES (GRASS)

7-4-10-12

#7 Kunooz (5-2) went off favored in a nice maiden race at Ellis Park in August, which included Poster, and pressed the pace and ended up running a solid 71. He’s making his first start for the Kieron Magee barn, which often connects when sending out runners for the first time in their name. #4 Lil Sebastian (3-1) gets on grass for the first time after showing speed on dirt last year, and also gets Lasix for the first time. It’s a small sample size, but his sire, Rogueish, does well with horses making their first start on the lawn. #10 Bold Licorice (9-2) hasn’t been able to break through at this level, but he consistently ran in the 70s last year, and is a must-use for underneath spots.

RACE 8: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W2X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 1/16 MILES

2-6-3-1

#2 Viennese Waltz (7-2) rallied off of very slow paces to win her last two starts, beating next-out winners on both of those efforts. She’ll make a late impact with any kind of pace to close into. #6 Next Girl (5-2) makes her 2025 bow after capping last year with an off-the-pace win against first-level rivals, and has worked well since late March. She’s the only entrant to run at least an 84 in each of her last three starts. #3 Sheilahs Warcloud (9-5) won the Stellar Wind Handicap two starts ago and has lots of backclass, but has never raced this distance.

RACE 9: CLAIMING $40,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 5 FURLONGS (GRASS)

9-1-5-8

#9 Mendrel (3-1) makes her grass debut and her first start for the Brittany Russell barn. Both her dam and her second dam won on grass, as did two of her siblings, including graded stakes-placed Resolve. The very speedy #1 Ithinkiloveyou (5-2) finally broke through to break her maiden at seventh asking last out, doing it the hard way on the front end. She has by far the best early pace figures in the field, and stands a great chance to run away and hide. #5 Conceptualize (12-1) faded after getting caught up in a competitive duel last out, but will stand a much better chance if Jorge Ruiz can rate her off the early leaders.
