Delaware Park cancels June 6 card

Delaware Park officials canceled the track’s scheduled June 6 card “due to heavy rain activity overnight,” they said in a text message to horsemen.

Rain began to fall in the area just past 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and continued, at times heavily, for the next several hours.

The announcement of the cancellation followed earlier texts announcing that the track would not open for training this morning and that races would be taken off the turf.

Delaware Park hosted its first stake of the year Wednesday, with Alva Starr attaining millionaire status after an easy win in the $100,000 Rehoboth. The track had an eight-race program scheduled for today; live racing is expected to resume Friday.

Delaware is drawing its June 12 card today, and in a later text, the track informed horsemen that today’s fourth, sixth, and seventh races would be brought back as extras for June 12.
