Read on – and good luck!

RACE 6: GRADE 3 CHICK LANG

This six-furlong test for sophomores a field of eight with Frost Free, runner-up last out in the Bachelor at Oaklawn, the 2-1 morning line favorite. Local racing fans may be familiar with Maryland-bred Catahoula Moon, trained by Jerry Robb for Super C Racing and the winner of last year’s Maryland Million Nursery; and Timonium Juvenile winner Sweet Soddy J for Lynn Cash.

Our group consensus:

  1. #1 Mr Skylight
  2. #6 Frost Free
  3. #7 Catahoula Moon

RACE 7: GRADE 3 GALLORETTE

The Grade 3 Gallorette appears to run through trainer Chad Brown’s Fluffy Socks. The 6-5 morning line favorite has been keeping better company than these, owns a couple of graded victories, and has been Grade 1-placed.

But our handicappers don’t see this one has cut and dry. In fact, they much prefer Blissful. The Cherie DeVaux trainee arrives in good form — five straight finishes in the triple — and DeVaux dominated Friday’s Pimlico action, winning three stakes, including the Grade 3 Pimlico Special.

  1. #3 Blissful

RACE 8: GRADE 3 MARYLAND SPRINT

The Maryland Sprint often draws a salty field of older sprinters, and this year’s edition is no exception. Graded winners Prevalence, Super Chow, and Jaxon Traveler are joined here by local hopefuls Coastal Mission and Prince of Jericho.

Our ‘cappers are somewhat all over the map with this one. In fact, six of the seven originally entered were backed by at least one of our experts in at least one spot, and five drew more attention than that.

  1. #6 Prince of Jericho
  2. #4 Jaxon Traveler

RACE 9: JAMES W. MURPHY STAKES

Sophomores tackle the turf in this contest, and with morning line favorite Twirling Point out, favoritism falls to Fulmineo. The Arnaud Delacour trainee ran second in the Grade 2 Pilgrim last year and then ran credibly — beaten less than six lengths — in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

But our handicappers remain unconvinced. In fact, three of the four top-scoring horses (including a tie for third) have double-digit morning line odds. With a 4-1 morning line favorite, this is a wide-open heat that might warrant covering several in your multi-race wagers.

  1. #10 Abrumar
  2. #5 Speedyness
  3. #3 Massif and #12 Fulmineo (tie)

RACE 10: SIR BARTON STAKES

This contest for sophomores is restricted to horses that have never won a stake, so it typically attracts a mix of second-tier runners and runners early in their development. Shug McGuaughey has the morning line favorite here in Corporate Power (9-5), a winner once in three career starts while Steve Asmussen counters with Imperial Gun, a near-miss second in the Bath House Row Stakes last out

Our handicappers have a strong preference for Imperial Gun, though, with a couple of other runners getting a bit of interest.

RACE 11: JIM MCKAY TURF SPRINT

Defending champ Beer Can Man gets the nod as morning line favorite at 5-2 as he attempts to repeat in this five-furlong dash, while local hopeful Witty aims to make it three straight wins overall and five in his last six outings. Our handicappers see this as very much Beer Can Man’s race to lose.

  1. #12 Beer Can Man
  2. #11 Witty
  3. #9 That’s Right and #1 Grooms All Bizness (tie)

RACE 12: GRADE 3 DINNER PARTY STAKES

The scratches of Emmanuel and Funtastic Again remove both the morning line favorite in Emmanuel and our ‘cappers’ top two choices. It also leaves a fairly wide-open heat.

  2. #6 Crabs N Beer
  3. #11 Eons
