- Maryland Juvenile: A mystery solved, decades laterSaturday’s Maryland Juvenile Stakes should be a fun race, but it’s unlikely to launch the careers of two Classic winners, like the 1982 edition did.
RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 8 | 1-2-7-3 | #1 Alfatei (4-1): Excuse his last, as he was unruly in the gate and got away last. He ran a huge race to be third, only beaten three lengths. Can take it gate to wire if he breaks well. Trainer Mike Pino is on a bit of a hot streak. #2 Derby House (7-2): Looking to make it five in a row and just needs the trip. Moving up the ladder for trainer Penny Pearce, who is running at a 27% strike rate. #7 Davidic Line (9-2): Going from a sprint to a route. Has the speed to lead throughout for top trainer Jamie Ness. #3 Midnightcharly (8-1): Another Ness runner who is making his second start off the claim. Was second last and can earn a share. |
Race 10 | 5-6-2-8 | #5 Golden Tabby (3-1): Was second in the New Start Stakes at Penn National last time. With the class drop, she should be able to wire this field. #6 Princess Cupid (5-1): Won last with cheaper. She will rate off top pick and can earn a major share for top barn. #2 Six o’Clock Sarah (4-1): She is looking to make it three in a row. Defeated older in a state-bred allowance in last and has the speed to go gate to wire. Well spotted by trainer Jamie Ness. #8 Burano (6-1): She was second to a runaway winner in the same race last time, albeit back in January. She can lay off the pace and get a share for top trainer John Servis. |
