- Maryland Juvenile: A mystery solved, decades laterSaturday’s Maryland Juvenile Stakes should be a fun race, but it’s unlikely to launch the careers of two Classic winners, like the 1982 edition did.
RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 7 | 3-4-5-1 | #3 La Regalada (3-1) makes her third start off the bench and is facing PA-breds for the first time. The added distance helps, all four prior starts were good, and a repeat of last and class relief makes her a solid play to win… #4 Queen Lucky (2-1) was steadied in the late stages last start against similar. If she gets the trip, she is the main rival to the top pick for trainer Cal Lynch… #5 Our Jessica Joan (4-1) ships in from Penn National and adds blinkers today. She was second in her only previous start against maiden claimers. She’s out of the claiming ranks but facing PA-breds here, and she’ll get blinkers on for trainer Bernie Houghton… #1 Eighty Eight Keys (5-1) cuts back from a route to a sprint and was second last out to a runaway winner. She’s run OK in earlier efforts versus PA-breds, which makes her playable here for a share. |
Race 10 | 9-3-1-2 | #9 Derby House (7-2) was claimed two starts back for $30,000 at Turfway Park and won last out under wraps by nine lengths. He enters on a three-race win streak, and the same effort today makes him hard to beat today for trainer Penny Pearce… #3 Fast Bob (9-2) was second last time out with same as today. He’s the main threat to ur top pick but would need a perfect trip to win for trainer Michael Moore… #1 Flat Out Flying (3-1) is hard to fault of late. Since being claimed back by trainer Cal Lynch he’s won three of seven with two seconds. He won last start against cheaper, has never run a bad one, and shouldn’t be discounted in a really competitive race… #2 Commissioner G (4-1) won his last start sprinting and stretches out to a distance at which he’s 0-for-7. Still, he’s run some good races at the trip and shouldn’t be dismissed as having a chance for a piece… |
