- What we learned on Maryland Juvenile Stakes dayHere’s what we learned at Laurel Park for Saturday’s Maryland Juvenile and Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes.
RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 7 | 7-6-4-2 | In this maiden special weight… #7 Mutasallem (3-1) was a solid 3rd to a runaway winner in last start at Laurel. The 7-furlong distance should help him prove best with these… #6 Hot Pot (5-1) ran a good 2nd to the favorite last out, and a repeat of that and the added furlong should fit well with these… #4 O’Brien (4-1) makes his 3rd start off the bench and has been second in last two with similar. He’s well-spotted here with a chance to upset… #2 Flaco Explosivo (9-2) needs an alert start. Let’s forgive the last start. He gets a rider change today, and a well-timed ride can earn him a major piece. |
Race 10 | 1-3-2-5 | In this open allowance contest… #1 Mojovation (7-2) faced better last out in the $100,000 Fishtown Stakes. The added half-furlong helps in a very competitive race. He’s got a big chance for the meet’s leading trainer, Jamie Ness… #3 Hopeful Treasure (4-1) is coming off the bench from a brief layoff after finishing fourth in the G3 Toboggan. One start prior, he won the G3 Fall Highweight. Trainer Mike Catalano is 20% off the bench, and if this one’s ready, he’s a threat on top… #2 Rock On Luke (5-1) was beaten a neck off a three-month layoff by the favorite. With a race under his belt and a good trip, he should be very competitive today… #5 Wendell Fong (3-1) was a fast-closing third in a very competitive field last time out. With the race and today’s added distance, he’s a threat with these. |
