Laurel Park cancels March 12 card
A powerful winter storm passing through the Mid-Atlantic region has forced the Maryland Jockey Club to cancel Saturday’s live nine-race program at Laurel Park.
According to the National Weather Service, the Baltimore/Washington area and northeastern Maryland were forecast to experience rapidly deteriorating conditions as rain turned to heavy snow at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, with gusty winds.

Maryland will take ownership of the Preakness intellectual property after exercising its right to match an $85 million offer.
Laurel, Pimlico, Rosecroft and the MJC OTB Network will remain open for simulcasting.
Live racing is scheduled to return Sunday to Laurel with a nine-race program starting at the new post time of 12:40 p.m.
Race 8 is a stakes-quality allowance for fillies and mares 4 and up sprinting 5 ½ furlongs that attracted multiple stakes winner Dontletsweetfoolya, making her return to Laurel after a try on the all-weather surface at Turfway Park; 2021 Willa On the Move winner Kaylasaurus, most recently fourth in the Barbara Fritchie (G3) Feb. 19; and Princess Kokachin, the even-money program favorite who upset Hello Beautiful in the 2021 Poliltely.
The races carded as today’s fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh will be brought back as extras for Friday, March 18. Today’s remaining races will be extras for Saturday, March 19.
