RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 8 | 11-4-3-10 | On the drop to state-bred maiden company last out, #11 Allevare (2-1) gave a good account of himself, prevailing in a duel for speed supremacy before having to settle for second behind a runner who sat the right trip. That runner, Witty, is a half to $400,000 earner Caravel. Trainer John Servis legs up go-to rider Pennington here, and this one looks poised to graduate… #4 Downtowncharlybrown (8-1) got a bit of time away after a disappointing seventh-place finish on debut and has been working fast towards his return to action, including a bullet five-eighths Nov. 11. The Ed Coletti trainee is a full-brother to stakes winner Midnightcharly and multiple stakes winner Midtowncharlybrown… Leading rider Ruben Silvera rode #9 Nimitz in that one’s debut but lands here on #3 Carpe Sogno (8-1), a Carpe Diem gelding making his debut for Kate Demasi… Another debut runner is #10 Major Thomas (8-1). The Bernie Houghton trainee has apparently been working in company with Houghton’s other horse here (#8 Chain Reaction) and is a half to multiple stakes winner Trace of Grace… |
Race 9 | 7-1-8-6 | Top choice #7 Hibachi (4-1) threw in a clunker last time but had been competing against open allowance foes prior to that. Trainer Preciado gave this one a bit of a break, and if he can bounce back to his earlier form, he’ll contend here… Breaking from the rail, we’re guessing #1 Splicethemainbrace (5-1), who has sprinter’s speed, will be on the engine in the early going and could control this one a ways… #8 You Must Chill (3-1) certainly looks to fit here, but we’re a little cautious on potential short odds; this one has done his best work this year on the lawn, and his two main-track victories in ’21 both have come in off-the-turf events… #6 Tudox Expectations (9-2) makes his third start off a two-month break here and second in the Ness barn… |
