RACE NUMBERCONTENDERSCOMMENTS
Race 43-4-8-1Top choice #3 Hodler (5-2) takes a double-drop to this maiden $25,000 level for his second start. The Mizzen Mast gelding ran evenly after a slow start against maiden special rivals on debut and competes here for the red-hot trainer-jockey combo of Jamie Ness and Ruben Silvera… The speedy #4 Ouch Ouch Ouch (9-2) led to mid-stretch before fading to third last out — an improved effort in his first try in the Ron Dandy barn, and he did it after setting a sharp first fraction… Trainer Juan Vazquez has tried twice recently to get #8 A Gray for Carolyn (6-1) on the turf, both times getting forced onto the main track. Three’s a charm? #1 He Runs the Line (8-1) was second against similar two back (and finished ahead of Ouch Ouch Ouch that day) but followed up eight days later with a clunker…
Race 94-5-10-11Top choice #4 Glamorous Thunder (4-1) crushed starter allowance foes three back and then was overmatched in the G3 Penny Memorial. Last out she led into the furlong grounds before tiring against similar. She wheels back on short rest today for her third start in 22 days, which suggests trainer Ralph Riviezzo likes what he’s seeing, and gets Lasix back on… Since breaking her maiden last July, #5 Beautiful Star (12-1) was overmatched in a pair of stakes (off odds: 19-1 and then 123-1) and raced in a pair of races on the main track. Back to her preferred surface and seeing the type of rivals with whom she fits, she has a chance to get back to best form… #10 Minding Millie (8-1) broke her maiden at Penn National but did it like a good thing, winning off by seven. She’s showing a good work in the interim for a barn that’s 4-for-10 this year… #11 Zeyaraat (5-1) won at first asking on the main track at Parx despite racing greenly and followed that up with a pretty decent try over yielding turf in the Selima at Pimlico last fall. Her next turf try, in the Chelsey Flower, was a mess, but she’s another who can improve today against more suitable rivals…
