From a Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association release

For the first time this year, horses worked this morning on the Delaware Park main track.

Delaware Park’s barn area opened March 1, but the main track was not yet ready for use.  As a result, trainers have been training on the training track.

“We’re hoping for a good live racing season this year at Delaware Park,” said Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (DTHA) president Michael Gorham earlier this spring.

According to the DTHA, many trainers have already returned or are planning to return to the Stanton oval, and some new trainers are on the grounds, as well.  The organization plans to host a trainers’ lunch at the DTHA office in May.

Opening day is May 21, with the meet’s highlight, the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap, slated for July 16.
