The last jump race of the Saratoga meet is the $75,000 Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Stakes for older fillies and mares, and it’s heavily populated by Midlantic-bred runners.  After a scratch, three of the five remaining runners were bred in the region, all in Pennsylvania.  They are:

  • Sully’s Approach (15-1), a Jonathan Sheppard-trained daughter of Partner’s Hero whose lone jumps win came in maiden claiming company;
  • Opera Heroine (8-1), another Partner’s Hero,trained by Jack Fisher, who won at Saratoga last year in the Mrs. Ogden Phipps and has second-, third-, and fourth-place finishes in her three starts this season; and
  • Brilliant Match (6-1), yet another mare by Partner’s Hero and also trained by Jonathan Sheppard, she ran third in the Mrs. Ogden Phipps three weeks ago.
