R2: 1-4-2-3

R3: 3-4-8-10

R4: 8-9-6-4

R5: 9-8-5-4

First start of the year, first on turf, and first Lasix for #9 Mysterioso, whose siblings are a combined 6-for-13 in turf sprints… It’s a little late to debut for #8 Highgarden, who’s nearing the end of his four-year-old season, but this Twirling Candy gelding was a $700,000 (!) yearling, and trainer Brittany Russell wins at a 32% clip with older firsters; breeding suggests he’ll want a route of ground… #5 Orange Road has run two pretty good races on turf and was second in most recent; draw a line through dirt route last out…

R6: 5-3-6-8

Taking a swing here with #5 Muthabir, who made a quick inside move in the second quarter to have a head in front in latest, and while he couldn’t go with the winner, stayed on willingly and clear of the rest despite being on the wrong lead… #3 Swaging was never involved at 30-1 last time out but finds a better fit here; runs best when involved early… #6 Drill Baby goes out for a Compton barn winning at a 39% clips at the meet; has talent but most overcome lengthy break, with no starts in over seven months and just one in almost 16…

R7: 10-9-11-5

#10 Normandy Hero has run good races on and off the pace, including a good second in a CNL handicap two back; likely comes from off it today, and outside draw a plus… Speedy #9 Wildncrazynight fended off the challengers in turf bow last out… The improving #11 Neonate makes first start since a good-looking first allowance win July 30; should have a pace to close into if ready to fire…

R8: 2-1-4-6

R9: 12-9-4-5
