Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: SOUPER FORCES. Monmouth Park’s Sunday feature was the Red Bank Stakes, for older males at one mile on the grass. The lightly-raced but promising 4-year-old gelding Souper Forces, making his sixth career start, rallied from well off the pace to win by 3 1/2 lengths. He drafted in fifth place in the six-horse field early on, while Jersey-bred J J Zo Zo set an contested pace. Charlie Marquez asked Souper Forces for his best on the far turn, and he answered affirmatively to move alongside the leaders in the stretch. He pulled away late, outkicking runner-up There Are No Words and favored Win for the Money, and hit the wire in front covering the distance on a good grass track in 1:39.04. He’s a homebred for Live Oak Plantation trained by Mike Trombetta.

SECOND STAR: TIMETOSHINE. Colonial Downs hosted their final steeplechase stakes of the season, the grade 2 Marion Dupont Scott Handicap, on Thursday. Timetoshine, previously second in three grade 2 races in a row, finally broke through and won by a head. She raced in midpack, well off the rail, for most of the 2 1/4-mile journey, then made her move after longtime leader Camanoe in the stretch. She overhauled that rival, who previously beat her in the Life’s Illusion Stakes, then won a stretch duel with fellow pace-stalker Gold Charm. Camanoe finished 1 1/2 lengths behind them in third. This was Timetoshine’s second stakes win, following her victory in last year’s Life’s Illusion. She’s now 8-for-27 lifetime with career earnings of $252,710. Dan Nevin had the winning mount for owner Runnymoore Racing LLC and trainer Mark Beecher.

THIRD STAR: SEA DEVIL. On Saturday at Monmouth, Jersey-bred Sea Devil scored one for the locals when he won the Sapling Stakes for 2-year-old males by a nose. The 7-1 shot didn’t get a breather on the first turn, as he was pressed on the early pace by Rassai, Hes Steelin Mylady, and Raku. As they moved up the backstretch, Jorge Vargas elected to take his mount back to third place and rate off the pace, a move that might have saved him necessary energy. He reengaged with the leaders at the top of the stretch and gave Raku all he could handle from that one’s inside. It looked like Raku would eventually pull clear, but Sea Devil never wavered an inch and won by a nose. He ran the mile in 1:38.26 and improved to 2-for-4 lifetime with earnings of $120,680. He’s a homebred for Holly Crest Farm, by Jersey stallion Sea Wizard, trained by Eddie Owens.

TIMONIUM

FIRST STAR: ALL THE HARDWAYS. Sat the trip and converted to win a second-level allowance sprint on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: SHEILAHS WARCLOUD. After being scratched twice earlier in the meet, she stayed in for a restricted allowance for fillies and mares on Sunday, and she picked the right spot, as she won by a head with a dramatic late move.

THIRD STAR: GOT GAME. Improved to 4-for-4 on the year with a three-length win in a first-level allowance route on Friday.

PARX RACING

FIRST STAR: MORE THAN GRACE. Won her sixth race in a row last Monday, taking a Pennsylvania-bred allowance sprint by nine lengths.

SECOND STAR: DEVIL’S CAY. Pressed the pace, pulled clear late, and held on in a first-level allowance route on Thursday.

THIRD STAR: WAVE RIDER. Crushed a non-winners of two allowance sprint field by 6 1/4 lengths last Monday.
