Delaware Park picks and analysis: July 9, 2026
- CARRYOVERS: Pick 5, $21,540
- POST TIME: 12:20 P.M.
- NUMBER OF RACES: 9
RACE 1: 6-7-3-1
#6 Chill Bean is in pretty good form now, having won two back and last out making a strong middle move before settling for second, and winner C C Girl moved up a notch to repeat; first off the Simone claim… #7 Pasila didn’t run well in latest, but that was against better and came as her first off a 3-month layoff; improvement possible… #3 South Boundary skips a condition in this spot and tries two turns for the first time; most of her figs easily win in this spot, but her last couple are terrible, and where’d her early speed go? Maybe the added ground and drop to the bottom are the wakeup call she needs…
RACE 2: 4-1-3-6
#4 Miti Fast Flower dusted similar two back and really didn’t run a bad race last out when moved up to face starter foes; drop back into beaten company should aid the cause… #1 Mabee Luckynwild probably isn’t good enough to beat the better horses in here, but she ought to control it early on the stretch out; maybe she’ll get brave on the front… #3 Lady Arwen finished just behind our top choice last out, and if you like the one, you probably ought to like the other…
RACE 3: 7-5-9-3
#7 Springtime Diva has recorded a zippy worktab in preparation for her career bow here for trainer Brion, who legs up local go-to rider Chuan; sire Galawi has a couple of 2yo debut winners, and this one’s half-sibling won at second asking… #5 Cat’s Meow is certainly well bred, a daughter of Grade 1 winner Channel Cat out of a Kitten’s Joy mare and a half to Grade 3 turf winner English Bee, but it feels like this might be a prep for longer races, which this one’s breeding is focused towards… #9 Sun Valley is the first foal out of a minor turf stake winner and by solid sire Karakontie; the Matz barn can win first out…
RACE 4: 5-6-7-1
#5 Seeking Unity is also seeking a bounceback effort after two pretty putrid efforts against better, but as recently as April this one was running races that would win here; trainer Simone is 4-for-8 with runners switching into his barn and dropping in class… #6 Patton’s Tizzy fought on gamely last time but could not quite hold off the winner and was claimed by Carlos Sepulveda; note that he has not won beyond six furlongs… #7 Strategist had an improved try last out when second at 16-1…
RACE 5: 1-6-7-3
Useful enough return to action last out by #1 Shaft’s Bullet when just missing the win after a wide, rallying trip in his first in over a year; trainer Capuano is 3-for-8 second off long layoffs when stretching out to a route, and this one could catch a lively pace to run into… #6 Speedyness has a ton of early foot and probably makes the lead, but he’s sure to be pressed and may find it hard to hold off the closers; has kept tough company… #7 Tracking Error enters off a win in a race that’s produced a next-out winner…
RACE 6: 5-2-12-11
A pair of useful turf tries to date for #5 Babble, and both have come despite rough beginnings that have left him a tall task; a clean break might let him be a little more engaged early so that rider Maldonado can save that run for a bit later… #2 Fly Now won last out to graduate and has about as much early zip as any of these, so ought to find a comfy spot; bug rider Kingsley lands here rather than trainer’s other runner… #12 Wicked Boss gets class relief for his third start off the bench…
RACE 7: 5-2-4-1
#5 Glows in the Dark has won two straight, and in a race with some front-end speed, she could sit an ideal trip and pounce in the lane… #2 Tennesseehoneybee might be speed of the speed in this spot and returns to the Gallegos barn; if unchallenged early, she’ll be tough to reel in… #4 Peridot Pendant is another with a ton of early speed and likely to hook up with #2 in the early stages; has won five of six…
RACE 8: 3-5-9-2
The two turf tries to date for #3 Racey Ruby are better than they look (and they don’t look bad at all): the winner in the Lyphard, Modarosa, had already won a second-level allowance on the turf at Aqueduct prior, and this one finished within four lengths of her, and then she defeated prior Penn National allowance winner Xmas in Cairo; will be running late… #5 Let’s Dance Again just kept finding in that starter victory last out, zipping to the front and then turning aside challenger after challenger… #9 Starship Athena ran OK two back when beaten two lengths for all of it in an Aqueduct allowance, and last out she may have been foiled by a fast-playing turf course that was especially unkind to closers…
RACE 9: 3-4-6-2
Trying to beat the chalk in a race where it’s easy enough to shoot holes in all of ’em… #3 Citified has been away a couple of months and has a couple of outings probably good enough to win here; maybe the time off will do the trick at a (hopefully) attractive price… #4 Cloud Kisses suffered a tough beat in latest but tried hard all the way… #6 Chestertown Jane is the most likely winner, but how low do you wanna go on a runner that pretty much slowed to a walk in her last two starts?
