- POST TIME: 12:20 P.M.
- NUMBER OF RACES: 8
RACE 1: 2-8-5-3
#2 Dissolute had a useful return to action two weeks ago when a near-miss second after three-wide journey on the turn in first in the Nazario barn; can step forward… #8 Magnolia Wind is likely to go favored in this spot, and the speed figs say she should be a major player, but unsightly 0-for-11 mark on dirt is hard to get past in the top spot… #5 Ribbonsinherhair makes her first start in a bit over two months for leading trainer Ness…
RACE 2: 2-4-1-7
#2 Spurious did something he’d never done before last out: made up ground late, just missing by a half-length while widest of all, and that followed a race in which he led a long way before tiring in late stages; let’s see if he can jump up in this spot at a price… #4 Bold Statement has the best last-out Beyer fig, a 51 last out, and a repeat of that would win here, but note that was at a route of ground rather than sprinting, and he may find the pace quite a bit faster today… #1 Party On Rufus made a couple of costly mistakes last out when second by a neck as he failed to navigate the turn well and then did not switch leads in the lane; he’s a major player if he can straighten those out…
RACE 3: 6-8-7-4
#6 Create Trouble returns to turf and to a level at which he won the last time he was here; should get a pace to run at… #8 Catahoula Moon switched to turf three back, and though he has yet to finish in the money, a couple of these tries weren’t bad against better; likely to be a bit closer to the pace on the stretch out and fits on best… #7 Arjay has plenty of early speed and makes his third start off the bench for trainer Raven; like that she waived the claiming tag in those first two outings…
RACE 4: 7-4-2-3
#7 Mighty Lindsey drops in half after a couple of struggling outings against better; Ness-Lopez trainer-jock combo is 10-for-14 at the meet… Inclined to draw a line through latest for #4 Crimson Red, which was her first trip to the Charles Town bullring, and she was outfooted going 4 1/2 furlongs; prior form fits here… #2 Vino Bella switches into the Simone barn after an even outing in her first against winners; ran OK at this six-furlong trip several races back…
RACE 5: 1-3-5-4
#1 Souper Williwaw went 0-for-4 in Florida but ran pretty good races, three in stakes company; Souper Zonda, who won that most recent race, turned around to win a stakes race; Trombetta legs up red-hot Paco Lopez… #3 Sophie’s Cruiser is likely to be speed of the speed here and just missed at the second-level allowance three back and in a stake last out but may have company on the front end… #5 Amie’s Symphony rallied willingly before flattening out a bit late in the Dahlia…
RACE 6: 6-4-1-3
#6 Prince Colton looks to be speed of the speed in this spot and might take ’em a long way, though #3 Gametime Gladiator could throw a spanner in the works, as he’s got plenty of early zip as well… #4 La Houligan should appreciate getting a pace to run into and perhaps a bit easier company… #1 Mad Banker arrives for the red-hot Ness-Lopez combo after four middling tries against New York-bred allowance company…
RACE 7: 8-3-12-4
#8 Princess Javoncia was a very lukewarm favorite last time out at Laurel but lost all chance with a disastrous stumble leaving the gate; the eighth-place finisher from that contest came back to win her next, and this one makes her second start of the season for a barn that does well second off the bench… #3 Birdie Rose flattened out a bit in late stages in latest after chasing a tearaway leader, but that was her first in nearly four months, so an improved outing here is certainly possible… #12 Expecting a Winner just missed against slightly better last out but must navigate the tricky outside post…
RACE 8: 4-1-5-7
#4 Risk Factor ran a sneaky-good race in latest, stumbling at the start, bidding to a short lead near the quarter-pole, and staying on willingly to the wire; cleaner break would help, but the pace scenario should work perfectly… #1 Twelve Nelson has been drawn outside in his two recent wins but will have to use his speed from the rail in this spot, which has others with speed signed on… #5 Battle Warrior’s last couple aren’t great, but both came against tougher…
