All in the family for Miss Fulton Gal
Bracciale family filly wins Beyond the Wire
Trott Racing Stable, Five Sisters Farm, and John Polizos’ Miss Fulton Gal prevailed in a frantic finish to win Saturday’s $100,000 Beyond the Wire Stakes at Laurel Park.
The win set off an emotional winner’s circle, as the Five Sisters are the five daughters of the late jockey and trainer Vincent “Jimbo” Bracciale, who passed away in December at age 72, and the Trotts are Bracciale’s daughter Natalie and son-in-law Rick Trott.

“I had so much anxiety going into this race,” Rick Trott said. “Obviously, I can’t control anything, but it just means a lot to the family to get into the Weber City Miss.”
The April 18 Weber City Miss Stakes is the next local step on the road to the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan on Preakness weekend. Jimbo Bracciale, a winner of more than 3,500 races in his career, piloted Weber City Miss to a win in the 1980 Black-Eyed Susan.

Miss Fulton Gal, a three-year-old Rock Your World filly, was a $35,000 auction purchase and now has earned over $150,000.
“When Jimbo retired from training, I guess, like two years ago, he went down to Florida with [trainer Michael Gorham] and picked out this horse,” said Trott. “He introduced me to Mike, and he picked out this horse. This is the last horse he picked out.”
Miss Fulton Gal arrived off a win in an allowance/optional claimer last out and took robust wagering action, going off the 3-1 second choice in the field of five. Peach Tie, undefeated in five prior dirt tries, was the 1-2 favorite despite a mystifying morning line that had her second choice to Law School, who went off at 4-1.
Law School made the early lead, controlling the pace through an opening quarter-mile in 24.83 seconds and a half-mile in 49.28 seconds. But Law School was tiring, and after three quarters in 1:14.46, Peach Tie had her head in front three wide while Some Ride loomed a threat while wider still.
Meanwhile, jockey Raul Mena had Miss Fulton Gal in behind horses and close to the leaders. In the lane, she came off the fence, found room between rivals, and prevailed by a head over Peach Tie, who re-rallied to finish a half-length ahead of Some Ride. Running time for the one-turn mile was 1:40.64.
Miss Fulton Gal paid $8.20 to win. The exacta returned $11.30 for a one-dollar wager.
“This is amazing,” Trott said. “The horse is strong, the jockey rode a great race, and Mike Gorham is awesome.”
The Weber City Miss is next, Trott hopes.
“It’s up to Mike [Gorham],” the owner said. “We’ll let Mike make the call, but we’re gonna encourage him to make that happen, as long as the horse comes back sound.”
That race is at 1 1/16 miles, and if that goes well, the Black-Eyed Susan is even longer, at 1 1/8 miles. Of course, the competition is tougher, too.
“We’ll see. I think that’s a good distance for us,” Trott said. “Like I said, Jimbo won the Black-Eyed Susan on Weber City Miss. If it just all kind of gets put together, that would be amazing.”
