LRL: Takethemoneyhoney, Quint’s Brew make amends
Score in state-restricted stakes
Takethemoneyhoney made it easy, while Quint’s Brew had to work for it.
In the end, though, the beaten favorites from last month’s Barbara Fritchie and General George Stakes made amends in Saturday’s Laurel Park stakes.
The Conniver, for Maryland- and Virginia-bred or -sired fillies and mares, scratched down to three, while the Not for Love, for Maryland- and Virginia-bred or -sired four-year-olds and up, had just four after scratches.

But the winner’s share was still the winner’s share in the $100,000 contests, and the connections were happy to get it.
In the Conniver, Takethemoneyhoney, beaten at 3-10 in the Fritchie, was again off at 3-10 in the Conniver. On a speed-favoring day – five of eight races were won by a horse on the lead at the first call – the speedy Dwelling Legacy grabbed the early advantage with jockey Eliseo Ruiz content to sit second a couple lengths back aboard Takethemoneyhoney.

In upper stretch, Takethemoneyhoney swept to the lead and pulled away from Dwelling Legacy to win by five lengths in 1:24.84 for seven furlongs on a muddy, sealed main track. Takethemoneyhoney now has seven wins and three seconds from 10 career outings with earnings of $411,770.
“I would think that [Dwelling Legacy’s] strategy was to send to the front and make us her chase her a little bit,” said Michael Moore, who trains Takethemoneyhoney for Kasey K Racing Stable, Michael Day, and Final Turn Racing Stable. “When you think you probably have the best horse, you’re thinking, ‘Okay, let’s go run her down.’ Like I said, I was glad when she got clear of her, because I didn’t want to watch another Passage East duel all the way to the wire [as in the Fritchie].”
One race later, jockey Forest Boyce put 4-5 favorite Quint’s Brew in action immediately, grabbing the front from the inside post while pressed by Suremeanttobe and S S Sinatra.
Trainer Ned Allard “hired me to do a job, and so there were no instructions on where to be,” Boyce said. “I just thought today the track was pretty speed-favoring, and nothing made up a ton of ground. Being in the one-hole, I felt like it was the best place to be.”
Blue Kingdom, the Jamie Ness trainee who was the 6-5 second choice, and Quint’s Brew, meeting for the fourth consecutive race, had a thriller in store.
Blue Kingdom, eyeing the speed from fourth under jockey Mychel Sanchez, went to the attack in upper stretch and put a head in front nearing the sixteenth pole. But Quint’s Brew fought back and rebuffed Blue Kingdom, inching away to win by a neck.
Quint’s Brew has won six of 11 career starts and earned $501,240. Allard trains him for Paul Berube, Karen Linnell, and Heather Hunter.
