Mid-Atlantic three stars: November 10, 2025
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: COMPLEXITY JANE. Laurel Park played host to the Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes on Sunday, as a field of seven traveled 1 1/16 miles on the main track. Complexity Jane, in her first start at Laurel since winning the Weber City Miss Stakes here in April, improved to 3-for-3 on the track with a 3 1/4-length triumph. She rated in second early on, allowing longshot Di’s Surprise to set the early pace. She moved to engage the leader up the backstretch, took control on the final turn, and pulled away to victory under Sheldon Russell. She’s now 3-for-3 at Laurel while finishing unplaced in her two starts elsewhere. She’s owned by Golden Lion Racing and trained by Brittany Russell.
SECOND STAR: BALBOA. The Maryland road to the Preakness began on Saturday with the James F. Lewis III Stakes for 2-year-old males at six furlongs. California invader Balboa, well-beaten in stakes company in his last two starts, picked up his first career stakes win by 5 1/4 lengths. Breaking from post position nine in the 10-horse field, he battled for the early lead with Max Capacity and took a slight advantage on that rival on the turn. Max Capacity began to fade as they turned for home, and Balboa kicked away. Hollywood Import tried to cut into the margin in the late stages, but his best was only second-best as Balboa increased his margin coming to the wire. He ran the distance on a muddy track in 1:11.87, improving to 2-for-5 lifetime with career earnings of $129,600. He’s owned by the SF Racing/Starlight Racing conglomerate, trained by Brittany Russell, and ridden by Sheldon Russell.
THIRD STAR: DOC’S MIRACLE. One race prior, the road to the Black-Eyed Susan kicked off in the Smart Halo Stakes. Off a pair of stakes wins at Colonial Downs, Just Philtored went off as the seven-money favorite in the five-horse field. Second choice Prosecco Rita went straight to the front and maintained a large lead as they approached the wire. While Just Philtored never fired and finished third, Doc’s Miracle gobbled up ground on the outside under urging from Yedsit Hazlewood. Doc’s Miracle got by in the last few strides and won by three-quarters of a length. She covered si furlongs in 1:12.15 in her second career win in eight starts. She’s a homebred for Daniel Crowley and trainer Gary Capuano, the latter under the nom de course Non Stop Stable. Capuano also co-bred Just Philtored.
LAUREL PARK
FIRST STAR: COMPLEXITY JANE. Once again showed her affection for Laurel with a win in the Thirty Eight Go Go.
SECOND STAR: BALBOA. Get the boxing puns out of your system now – this might not be the last we hear of this promising colt.
THIRD STAR: DOC’S MIRACLE. Sprung the upset in the Smart Halo and continued a fantastic season for Capuano and Hazlewood.
CHARLES TOWN
FIRST STAR: THE SKY IS FALLING. Rallied from off the pace and wore down longtime leader Petty Perfect to win Saturday’s My Sister Pearl Stakes for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares.
SECOND STAR: PARTY TIME FOR ME. The winner of the Autumn Stakes earlier this year sat the trip and converted to win an allowance dash on Friday for breeder, trainer, and owner Anthony Grigsby.
THIRD STAR: TICO GRANDE. Won a West Virginia-bred dash of his own by 5 1/4 lengths on Thursday for his third consecutive win.
PARX RACING
FIRST STAR: FOXY JUNIOR. Runner-up in the Maryland Million Distaff last out, she returned to her home state on Wednesday and captured an open allowance sprint by a length as the even-money choice.
SECOND STAR: FACTOR U AND ME IN. Led for every step in a first-level sprint on Monday for his fourth win of the year in 12 starts.
THIRD STAR: MYCHEL SANCHEZ. Guided home three winners on Tuesday and two more on Wednesday.
