Delaware Park picks and analysis: October 2, 2025
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:45 P.M.
- NUMBER OF RACES: 8
RACE 1
7. La Chismosa | Debut wasn’t terrible a couple levels up |
3. Dr. Patten | Scratched out of an Oct. 1 race to await this spot; showed decent speed before tiring after wide journey versus better in dirt bow |
1. Java Tales | Ran pretty well last out but did have the length of the stretch to go by after inside journey and couldn’t |
RACE 2
6. Peridot Pendant | Best figs, arrives on a four-race heater, beat better last out, and projects as controlling speed: too many positives to duck even at short odds |
1. Maddie Ten | Likely will need to work out a stalk-and-pounce trip but arrives in good form |
3. Lastchance Romance | Late-running sort gives trainer McClellan, who also sends out #6, a legit chance to claim the exacta |
RACE 3 – Turf, amateur riders
4. Goodson Jameson | Slight cutback in distance a plus for a horse who’s ceded ground late in longer; lightly raced sort has tactical speed to work out a trip |
3. Buck Run | Has had plenty of bad luck, including issues leaving the gate and running behind horses that repeated in all five of his starts; best contends |
2. Royal Renegade | Had first run on tiring tearaway leaders in latest but couldn’t seal the deal |
14. Band Tour | Needs a couple scratches to draw in; has done best work going one turn |
RACING NOTES
- Jockey Jaime Rodriguez won three on Wednesday, including the allowance feature aboard Frack Baby ($4.40) for trainer Greg Compton. He also scored on Home Invasion ($5.20) for Chuck Lawrence and Sea Shanty ($14.80) for Elizabeth Merryman…
- Rodriguez has 71 wins on the meet, nine more than Julio Hernandez, and is closing in on the meet title, which would be his fifth straight…

RACE 4
1. Tug | Showed good speed in debut before tiring after wide journey |
7. Tuff to Boss | First foal out of an unraced mare by middling sire Tapwrit; Simoff barn can win first out, and in a race where those who have raced all have question marks, a firster could get the money |
8. Sin Sin | Got bet in debut and ran OK after somewhat troubled start |
RACE 5 – Turf
10. Quadra | Easy win and an 85 Beyer speed fig in only prior turf sprint try |
4. Queen’s Wreath | 2-for-2 in turf sprints and cooked in latest going two turns when part of sharp early pace |
14. Sugar Bee | Should benefit from droppping down from two-other-than company; late runner will benefit if pace heats up |
12. Mizoula | Consistent sort is always right around it |
RACE 6
4. Cardinale | Jumped up in a big way last out when stretched to a mile and able to control the pace; projects as speed of the speed here but will likely be challenged by the favorite |
6. Freedom Stance | Four-time winner might well get bet down from his morning line after a bunch of good outings; interesting to see connex drop him in for the tag after solid second in PEN allowance; should be pressing our top choice |
2. Max’s Glory | If the pace heats up this guy might be the one picking them up late; was a little too close to the pace in latest in a race in which the top three finishers were fifth or worse early |
RACE 7 – Turf
9. Heaven’s Champion | Excuses in last three when placed against much better; this group’s a much better fit, and he gets reunited with rider Chuan, who won aboard him in June |
1. Kaladin | Just missed in latest when even-money Arjay completely ran out of gas in late stages |
7. Major Offensive | Gets blinkers on after disappointing outing when failing to overcome an awkward start; best efforts are right there |
RACE 8
2. Awesome Flay | He’s the one they’ll have to catch |
6. Cool Intentions | Stretches back out to a route of ground and gets Lasix on for the first time; stakes-placed three times and definitely keeping the right company, and drawn outside the other speed; hoping we might get some value on a major player |
3. Mistical Curlin | Maybe Ness is getting the ship turned around with this one, who snapped a four-race losing streak in latest and now moves back up the class ladder |
