GoFundme launched for injured jock Carol Cedeno
A GoFundMe campaign has been created by Megan Dero Halter to support jockey Carol Cedeno, who suffered serious injuries in a racing accident at Monmouth at the Meadowlands on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Cedeno was thrown to the ground when her mount, Micro Brewsky, stumbled during the evening’s fourth race, and in the chaos that followed, she was trampled by two other horses. The impact left her with a shattered and dislocated wrist and five fractured vertebrae after another horse struck her in the back. Micro Brewsky was vanned off.
Cedeno remains hospitalized and is awaiting surgery to repair her wrist.

A native of Puerto Rico, Cedeno has been a fixture in the mid-Atlantic riding colony since 2007. She has earned multiple riding titles at Delaware Park, where she is admired for her grit, professionalism, and perseverance. Cedeno has won more than 1,300 races in her career, and her mounts have earned more than $35 million in purse money.
Outside of racing, she is a devoted mother of two and a beloved friend to many in the community. She is especially close with Halter’s autistic son Matt, a racing fan who calls himself the “president” of Cedeno’s fan club.

“Carol is like family to us, and we want to support her through this difficult time,” Halter wrote on the campaign page, noting Cedeno’s bond with Matt. Even from her hospital bed, Cedeno smiled for a photo to reassure Matt that she was well.
The fundraiser aims to provide relief for medical expenses, lost income, and family support during what is expected to be a long and difficult recovery.
Cedeno’s family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of concern in a message included on the campaign:
“Gracias a todos los que an estado pendientes de la situación de Carol, cualquier granito de arena que puedan aportar se les agradece, ayúdenos a compartir para que llegue a más personas. Nuevamente gracias.”
[“Thank you to everyone who has been keeping up with Carol’s situation. Any small contribution you can make is deeply appreciated. Please help us share this so it can reach more people. Thank you again.”]
As of Monday morning, the effort has raised $3,100 of a hoped-for $50,000. The GoFundMe page emphasizes that every contribution will go directly to Cedeno and will help her focus on healing, knowing she is supported by her community.
