CNL: Just Philtored looks for third straight

Six fillies have entered to challenge Just Philtored as the Keswick Stakes winner makes her turf debut in Saturday’s $125,000 Dolley Madison Stakes at Colonial Downs. The race is one of two sibling stakes for Virginia-bred, -sired or -certified 2-year-olds going 5½ furlongs on turf.

A field of eight is set for the $125,000 Jamestown Stakes, led by Slewperstitus, the Keswick runner-up and lone filly in the field. She is cross-entered in the Dolley Madison.

The Dolley Madison is slated as Race 3, immediately followed by the Jamestown. First post for Saturday’s nine-race card is 12:30 p.m. ET

Purchased privately after an impressive debut win, Just Philtored was transferred to trainer Mike Trombetta’s barn with the Keswick circled as the target. Game throughout but needing every inch to hold off Slewperstitus, the Virginia-certified filly remains unbeaten in two starts. For her first turf try, Just Philtored was installed as the 6-5 morning line favorite. She drew post 3 and will reunite with jockey Mychel Sanchez.

Eric Rizer’s Slewperstitus ran a winning race but fell a neck short in the Keswick. Trained by Robert Bailes, her connections may try to turn the tables on Just Philtored in the Dolley Madison or opt for the Jamestown, where the Great Notion filly is cross-entered and would face males as the 6-5 morning line favorite.

In either spot, Slewperstitus’ top rival will be a Trombetta trainee, as the meet’s leading trainer also sends out Doubting Thomas in the Jamestown. The homebred Caravaggio colt, an impressive debut winner for the Estate of Larry Johnson, is a half sibling to graded stakes winner Spun Glass.
