Closing out the weekend at the Spa is the featured Grade II Honorable Miss Stakes in race 8 of a ten race card. A six furlong dirt sprint for fillies and mares four and up, this seven horse field is headlined by the 1/2 morning line favorite Grand Job from the William Mott barn. While this five year old mare has been beaten by a nose in two straight, a cutback in distance and natural early speed should put her on the lead amongst this aggressive group. While her recent fractions suggest that the others will be chasing her early, the two breaking Kappa Kappa has been dangerous in her short career when grabbing the lead, including a last time out gate to wire win at Parx. Starting at 10/1, this Pennsylvania bred faces a tough task to capture the Midlantic’s first stakes win of the meet, but has the running style and jockey to put in a strong effort.

Bred by Stone Jug Ranch LLC, Kappa Kappa started racing at Parx with two convincing gate to wire wins in her first three tries, both at sprint distances. This October, she entered into a seven furlong grade II at Keeneland and picked up her signature win at 27/1 despite narrowly losing the lead in the stretch. By Omaha Beach – Pharoah’s Princess, by Pioneerof the Nile, Kappa Kappa has only lost once when racing under a mile, with her four wins all coming on the front end. Omaha Beach has entered into the top fifteen sires by progeny earning this year, with his offspring winning at an average distance of under seven furlongs which falls in line with this filly. Irad Ortiz Jr. will take the mount here for the first time and looks to continue her forwardly placed ways in sprints, even if she may be pushed into unsustainable fractions. With the potential for pace pressure from her immediate inside and outside, a clean break is vital to hit the quarter pole unscathed and match up with the classy Grand Job. While this spot may prove difficult, the first furlong will determine if Kappa Kappa can hold on in the money or even score an impressive upset for Midlantic breds.
