Preakness Profile: The Hell We Did
Finished second in the Lexington
The Hell We Did has become one of the more intriguing outsiders in the race for his name and following a second-place finish in the Lexington Stakes. The Todd Fincher trainee had previously dominated an allowance field at Sunland Park by 13 lengths, and the latter race was his first around two turns. He has never finished worse than second in four career starts. Though lightly raced, he enters the Preakness in career-best form.
He is by Authentic, whose progeny have shown plenty of speed and competitiveness. He is out of the Desert God mare Rose’s Desert, who has been ultra-productive. He is a half-brother to $12 million earner Senor Buscador.
The Hell We Did may be part of the early pace battle. He has shown an aggressive style in nearly every outing and may try to put pressure on the favorites from the outset. Whether he can sustain that energy at this level remains the key question.
