Peach Tie looks to added graded win to resume
Russell trainee looks live in G3 Miss Preakness
Dependable Peach Tie, never worse than third in her seven-race career, will try to take another step up the class ladder in the $150,000 Miss Preakness (G3) Friday, May 15 at Laurel Park.
Peach Tie, a homebred owned by the Estate of Brereton C. Jones, drew Post 2 in the field of seven entered in the six-furlong test on dirt for 3-year-old fillies. The daughter of the late sire Preservationist, trained by Brittany Russell, has made her last four starts at Laurel, winning three and finishing second by a head in the one mile Beyond the Wire March 21. She is 5-1-1 thus far in her career and is 2-for-2 at the distance.

“She’s been really consistent. She’s been really cool to have around,” Russell said. “Obviously, we had to try her a little bit longer last time and it wasn’t what she wanted, but she likes this racetrack. I don’t know how this race is going to come up but I like the cutback.”
Russell’s husband, jockey Sheldon Russell, will be up for the fifth consecutive start.

It’s the first of half a dozen stakes the Russell operation will participate in this weekend at Laurel. She’s hoping it all culminates in a win by Taj Mahal in Saturday’s Grade 1, $2 million Preakness.
But first this.
Peach Tie is 4-1 on the morning line and the third choice in a field of seven.
The morning line favorite is Little Miss Curlin (9-5), set to make her first start in the barn of Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen. She’s racked up five wins in six starts, all but one against Louisiana-breds, and she’s 5-for-5 on a fast track. Jose Ortiz will ride from the rail.
Also here is Lights Out Leni (5-2) for trainer Chad Summers and Gold Square LLC. She was an impressive winner at first asking, and runner-up Directive returned to graduate while earning a 91 Beyer speed figure. Luis Saez is named.
The Miss Preakness is the eighth race on Friday’s card.
