Dash for Cash quartet to meet again in It’s Only Money

Winner Time to Rock, beaten fave Duncan Idaho among them

The cream of the West Virginia-bred dash crop — including the top four finishers from last fall’s West Virginia Dash for Cash Breeders’ Classic — will renew acquaintances in Saturday’s $75,000 It’s Only Money Stakes at Charles Town Races.

At just 4 ½ furlongs, familiarity often breeds intensity, and this compact but salty field is loaded with it. The headliner is multiple stakes winner Duncan Idaho, who has dominated this division over the past two seasons and exits a campaign in which he won five of six starts.

He captured this race a year ago and owns a remarkable 15-for-23 record locally, pairing high early speed with the ability to finish — a dangerous combination in these short dashes.

However, his lone misfire last season came in the Dash for Cash after a poor break, and all of his main rivals return.

Time to Rock, who turned the tables that day with a strong outside rally, returns off the bench but shows a steady worktab and owns the kind of late kick that can capitalize if the pace gets heated. Bedeviled by poor starts early last season, once he ironed out that problem, the Stacey Viands trainee ran off three consecutive wins to close his campaign, capped by a one-length victory in the Dash for Cash.

The ultra-speedy Honeyquist, third in this event last year, led much of the way in the Dash for Cash but could not hold off Time to Rock, ultimately settling for second. A six-time winner at the trip, he kicked off his ’26 campaign with a March 6 allowance win.

Pork Chop Pete was third in the Dash for Cash and owns seven wins at the distance. In his best outings, he has been part of the early action.

Thewitchisgone, Nocashrefunds, Little Roo Roo, and Youthinkthatsfunny round out the field.

As is often the case in these Charles Town dashes, the race may be decided in the opening strides. A clean break makes Duncan Idaho the one to beat, but don’t sleep on Time to Rock, whose latter 2025 campaign was stellar.
