593 hips entered

Fasig-Tipton has catalogued 593 entries for its Midlantic May Two-Year-Olds in Training sale, to be held Monday and Tuesday, May 18-19, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland.

“Our consignors have shown tremendous support for Midlantic May this year, resulting in an outstanding catalogue,” said Paget Bennett, Midlantic Director of Sales. “Growth in both numbers and sire power makes this one of our strongest editions to date.”

Recent graduates include Kentucky Oaks (G1) hopeful Explora, featured on this year’s cover winning the Honeybee S. (G3) at Oaklawn earlier this year. A graduate of last year’s Midlantic May Two-Year-Olds in Training sale, Explora won the Oak Leaf S. (G2) as a juvenile and was second in both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and the Del Mar Debutante S. (G1). She is joined on the cover by graded stakes winners A Fine Chardonnay, recent winner of the Beaumont S. (G2); Charlene’s Dream, a multiple graded stakes winner last year including Beverly D. S. (G2); Ground Support, winner of the Miss Grillo S. (G2) and placed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1); and Mendelssohn Bay, winner of this year’s Firebreak S. (G3) at Meydan.

The under tack show will be held over three sessions, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 12-14. Each under tack show session will begin at 8 AM. The 151st Preakness S. (G1) will be held at Laurel Park on Saturday, May 16, and the sale will follow on May 18 and 19. Each sale session will begin at 11 AM.

This year’s under tack show will be held in a new format, with untimed workouts and limited whip use. Fasig-Tipton will not time the workouts and no official times will be recorded or published. Additional details about the new under tack show format are available here.

“We are pleased to present our under tack show in a new format in 2026, offering untimed workouts and reduced whip use,” said Bennett.  “These updates are designed to better showcase a horse’s natural athleticism, as well as help more horses transition smoothly from the sales ring to the racetrack.”

Bennett continued: “We experimented with this format at last year’s sale, which yielded tremendous results.  Two of the graded stakes winners on this year’s catalogue cover, A Fine Chardonnay and Ground Support, were sold off untimed workouts.”

The catalogue may now be viewed online and will be available via the equineline sales catalogue app. Print catalogues will be available beginning April 20.
