LAUREL PARK JOCKEYS
Yedsit Hazlewood’s remarkable season continued apace this past week, as he won with seven of 18 starters to lead all Laurel riders… JG Torrealba won five, while Jose Vargas won four and Paul Luna won two… In all, 12 riders won at least one race… Hazlewood has 50 wins total, and his nearest pursuer, Angel Cruz, has 20; Vargas is third with 17… The two apprentices, Hazlewood and Vargas, lead in added wins with 4.23 and 4.15, respectively… Cruz is third with 2.87 added wins… Added wins compares a rider’s actual wins to the number of wins the odds would have predicted, with a positive total meaning the rider had won more races than the odds of his or her mounts suggest… The range of all riders is 4.23 to (-4.30)… Among regular Laurel riders, Hazlewood and Sheldon Russell lead in percent of purse earned; Hazlewood is at 25.02%, and Russell has taken in 24%… Cruz is third at 19.43%…

Hugh McMahon won with five of eight starters at Laurel last week to lead all local trainers… John Salzman, Jr. and Ferris Allen won two each, and overall, 20 trainers won at least one race during the weekend… Heading into the final weekend of the winter meet, the trainer wins title looks to be a race among Jamie Ness, with 17, McMahon (15), and Jose Corrales (14)… Anthony Farrior leads in added wins with 4.73… McMahon (3.92), Mike Gorham (3.64), Salzman (2.83), and Jose Corrales (2.64), are the next four in added wins, which compares actual wins to wins projected by runners’ odds… The range of all trainers in added wins is 4.73 to (-7.46)… Among regular Laurel trainers, Gary Capuano leads in percentage of purse earned at 27.18%, followed by McMahon (26.65%), Ned Allard (26.25%), Linda Albert (25.90%), and Lacey Gaudet (25.22%)…
