Mid-Atlantic three stars: March 9, 2026

Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. The budding rivalry between Quint’s Brew and Blue Kingdom continued in Saturday’s Not For Love Stakes at Laurel Park. The former was the 3-5 favoirte in the four-horse field, while the latter went off as the 6-5 second choice. Quint’s Brew broke well and set the pace on the rail, with Suremeanttobe pressing him from the outside. Blue Kingdom, meanwhile, raced well off the early pace and made a wide move on the turn. Quint’s Brew refused to go down without a fight, and the two dueled down the lane. Quint’s Brew ultimately prevailed by a head with Blue Kingdom second. It’s the second time the 5-year-old son of Mosler defeated Blue Kingdom in a photo finish, following their battle in the Jennings Stakes two starts back. He’s now 6-4-1 in 11 lifetime starts, with career earnings of $501,240. He’s a homebred for Paul Berube and and Karen Linnell, who co-own him with Heather Hunter. Ned Allard is the winning trainer; Forest Boyce had the winning mount for the first time.

SECOND STAR: RED ZONE RUNNER. Parx played host to a pair of stakes races for 3-year-olds on Tuesday. Red Zone Runner, making his first start since a third-place effort in the Heft Stakes on Dec. 27, dominated the field by 15 1/2 lengths. The 9-10 favorite made the rail and the lead from the outside post, and established a clear early advantage while setting moderate fractions. He opened up by four lengths on the far turn, and no one else was able to make a dent as he absolutely dominated the race. Under Mychel Sanchez, the 3-year-old Tom Coulter homebred ran 1 1/16 miles on a sloppy track in 1:46.67. Hugo Padilla is the winning trainer.

THIRD STAR: IVY GIRL. One race prior on the Tuesday card at Parx, Ivy Girl pulled off a 10-1 upset in the Main Line Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. She drafted towards the back of the pack in the early stages, and as they rounded the far turn, she remained 9 1/4 lengths off the lead and didn’t look like she would get involved. However, she began to get going at the top of the stretch, riding the rail under Jaime Rodriguez. 27-1 shot Halo Hottie had a clear lead as they passed the eighth pole, but Ivy Girl kept her rally going, and she got up to win by a head, covering the 1 1/16 miles in 1:49.43. She’s owned by Lucky Hat Racing and trained by Amelia Green.

LAUREL PARK

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. He’s won twice in three starts this year, showing heart and determination in both victories.

SECOND STAR: TAKETHEMONEYHONEY. Beat a pair of overmatched rivals in the Conniver Stakes earlier on the Saturday card.

THIRD STAR: ANNETTE EUBANKS. Earned her 500th career training win on Saturday, sending out Majorca to his maiden win.

CHARLES TOWN

FIRST STAR: HAMMER. Rated off the pace and kicked on to win an open allowance sprint on Saturday for his third victory in his last five starts.

SECOND STAR: HONEYQUIST. Made his 2026 debut a winning one by going gate-to-wire in the second-level allowance dash on Friday.

THIRD STAR: DOUBLE SPIRIT. Got a perfect pace setup and converted to win a second-level allowance sprint on Thursday, earning her fourth win in her last five races in the process.

PARX RACING

FIRST STAR: RED ZONE RUNNER. Turned in an impressive performance in the City of Brotherly Love; it’ll be interesting to see where he goes next.

SECOND STAR: IVY GIRL. Saved ground and closed well to pull off the Main Line upset.

THIRD STAR: MYCHEL SANCHEZ. Rode four winners on Tuesday, including Red Zone Runner, and four more on Wednesday.
