CT: Priority One looks to go 2-for-2

Maiden event includes half to $300k earner Buff’s Eye View

Three allowance contests and a crowded maiden special weight event headline Friday’s Charles Town Races card. The allowance races are the second, sixth, and seventh, while the maiden event goes as the nightcap.

The second is for West Virginia-breds that have never won two going seven furlongs. Trainer Mike Jones, Jr. has a pair in here, and one of them, Aye Direct, is the 2-1 morning line favorite. It took the Redirect gelding 11 tries to break his maiden, which he did Jan. 16, and then he was well beaten last out in his first try against winners.

Jeiron Barbosa will ride.

The sixth, for fillies and mares that have never won two, is also at seven furlongs. Making her second start off the bench, Over the Bull is the 9-5 morning line favorite. Two back, she ran her eyeballs out to be third in the WV Lottery Breeders’ Classic at odds of 54-1.

Denis Araujo will ride for owner-trainer Michael Sterling.

In the seventh, a 4 ½-furlong dash for state-bred fillies and mares, Priority One, a Fiber Sonde filly who is a half-sister to 15-time winner Stryda, will look to improve to 2-for-2 in her career. Trained by Anthony Farrior for owner-breeder Jill Daniel, Priority One made an eye-catching debut, winning her first start by nearly seven lengths.

Arnaldo Bocachica has the return mount.

The eighth, a seven-furlong maiden special weight contest for older state-breds, is a wide-open affair. The morning line favorite is Orienteer (3-1) for owner-breeder-trainer Kathleen Hamlin, who is winless in eight starts but has been second or third in three straight and will have regular pilot Justin Lewis up.

Trainer David Walters and owner-breeder Michael Miller send out an interesting prospect in Seldom Seen Mine (6-1). The Mineshaft gelding, making his career debut at age 4, is a half to $300,000 earners Buff’s Eye View, winner of the 2018 WV Lottery Breeders’ Classic, and Yes I See, winner of the 2019 Claiming Crown Iron Horse. Juan Nunez is named.

The card kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
