Laurel Park, Colonial reveal stakes schedules

Laurel Park and Colonial Downs have released their stakes schedules for the early part of 2026.
Laurel’s extends through April, while Colonial’s is for the March mini-meet.
Colonial’s March stakes include the $500,000 Virginia Derby and $250,000 Virginia Oaks, which offer points towards qualifying in the Kentucky Derby and Oaks, respectively. Two horses from each ran in the big races at Churchill Downs in 2025.

During its March mini-meet, which will take place March 12-14, Colonial will also host five additional stakes.
Laurel’s program for the first four months of the year includes 23 stakes and a pair of $100,000 overnight handicaps.
Highlights include a pair of $200,000 sprints for older runners, the Barbara Fritchie Stakes for fillies and mares and the General George, that take place Feb. 14.
The track will host its Preakness Preview Day Apr. 18 featuring the $150,000 Federico Tesio for sophomores and $150,000 Weber City Miss for three-year-old fillies. The Tesio offers the winner entrance into the Grade 1 Preakness, and the Weber City Miss provides the winner entrance into the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan.
