Mid-Atlantic three stars: December 1, 2025
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: CALL ME FAST. Parx hosted five stakes races on Wednesday, three of them for open company. The Turkey Trot Stakes, for older males at a mile and 70 yards, went to Call Me Fast by a head in an exciting stretch battle. He sat a great trip in the early stages, drafting in fourth off a hot pace while racing on the rail. As they rounded the far turn, Mychel Sanchez angled Call Me Fast into a four-path and looked ready to roll by. However, Ninetyprcentmaddie dug in after racing on the lead, and the two battled to the wire. Call Me Fast managed to squeak by in the final few jumps; he was never in front by more than a head until the wire. After starting the season 0-for-5, Call Me Fast has now won back-to-back races and is 5-for-29 lifetime, with career earnings just shy of $600,000. He ran the distance over a sloppy track in 1:41.73. He’s trained by Jamie Ness, who co-owns him with Madison Avenue Racing Stable Inc and Morris Kernan Jr.
SECOND STAR: MAXIMUS MERIDIUS. The Wednesday card at Parx concluded with the Let’s Give Thanks Stakes, featuring a field of seven older males going 6 ½ furlongs. Maximus Meridius, off a second-place finish in the Parx Sprint last out, lasted though an early duel and won by a head. He battled on the pace with Bernie’s Mitts, going through an opening quarter in 22.56 and a first half of 45.19. Bernie’s Mitts stopped badly and finished up the track, but Maximus Meridius had more to give and opened up by two lengths late. Howgreatisnate cut into the margin in the closing stages, but the wire came in time for Maximus Meridius, who stopped the timer in 1:16.06. It’s his second stakes win of the year, following a victory in Aqueduct’s Toboggan Stakes in January, and his third overall win of the year and seventh lifetime victory. Sanchez was also aboard this one for owners LC Racing LLC, Cash is King LLC and Wellesley Stable and trainer Butch Reid.
THIRD STAR: ALANI. Earlier on the Wednesday card at Parx, fillies and mares did battle over 6 ½ furlongs in the Cornucopia Stakes. Alani continued her busy season with a two-length win, her sixth on the year in 12 starts. Sent off as the 5-2 second choice in the nine-horse field, she dueled with favored Mega Mil the whole way, including a half-mile in a blistering 44.76. Mega Mil ran a game race of her own, holding on for second, but Alani kept on trucking and prevailed. She’s been remarkably consistent throughout her career, hitting the exacta 15 times in 19 starts. She’s owned by Hardesty Stable and Michael Day, trained by Michael Moore, and ridden by Andy Hernandez.
LAUREL PARK
FIRST STAR: ZERO BLITZ. Improved to 6-for-6 at Laurel with a 12-1 upset win in Saturday’s City of Laurel Stakes.
SECOND STAR: GRAYSON’S GIRL. Sat a great trip off the pace and rallied to win the Safely Kept Stakes earlier on the Saturday card.
THIRD STAR: YEDSIT HAZLEWOOD. Earned his 100th career win on Sunday, guiding Passage East to victory in a third-level sprint for fillies and mares.
CHARLES TOWN
FIRST STAR: PAY ZONE. Led all the way in an impressive first-level sprint on Saturday.
SECOND STAR: JUDGEMENT DAY. Lasted through pace pressure to capture a West Virginia-bred first-level contest on Friday.
THIRD STAR: IM THE DIRECTOR. Improved to 5-for-9 on the year with a determined allowance victory on Wednesday, pressing the pace and holding on to win by a neck.
PARX RACING
FIRST STAR: CALL ME FAST. It was a bit harder than he might’ve expected, but he eventually converted the trip for the Turkey Trot win.
SECOND STAR: MAXIMUS MERIDIUS. Called on all his heart and class for the Let’s Give Thanks victory.
THIRD STAR: ALANI. Continued an impressive year with her win in the Cornucopia.
