Here are some thoughts on it:
RACE 3: Maiden special weight, 1 1/16 miles
This is a pretty tepid group. The favorite, who probably needs to be on the ticket, is #7 Amendment, making her first start in Kevin Joy’s barn (15% first after the switch). She’s clearly better on turf, but her only prior dirt try was acceptable for this group when fourth at DEL… Doesn’t feel like a lock, though, so we may play around with others, including #3 Party Queen, who ran OK two back when second versus similar and makes her third start off the bench and in the Knudsen barn… #4 Suzies Pride just missed versus similar last out, besting Party Queen, but finished behind that rival three back…
RACE 4: Starter allowance/optional claimer, 6 ½ furlongs
What a game score by #5 Icing last out, who dueled with runner-up Moncrief all the way around before inching away in late stages to win. He could do it again and may be the main speed here… #4 No Love for Juba has won five straight against starter foes, a streak interrupted only by an up-the-track outing in the Sam Huff WV Breeders’ Classic when off at 29-1. He’d be no surprise… #1 Juba’s Notion stands as a likely pace presence, and jockey JD Acosta may well be sending from the inside stall. He beat similar two back and tired late last out going three turns, finishing behind No Love for Juba…
RACE 5: Claiming $5,000, 4 ½ furlongs
Inclined not to use #7 Nothing But Heir, who ran big last out to win, but that was just seven days ago. It’s rare for trainer Runco to wheel back on short rest, and his record when doing so in recent years is 0-for-4, including defeats at 4-5 and 6-5… If not him, who? Trainer Ronney Brown wins 18% with a slightly positive ROI first off the claim with horses who won last out, and #6 Head of the Class has won two straight. He’s in a spot where he could make it three, with bug rider Santaella up… #3 The Commish is the morning line fave off two straight wins… #2 Little Lukey gives Brown two bites at the apple…

RACE 6: Claiming $5,000, 1 1/16 miles
Nothing too clever here: morning line favorite #3 Mo Joke looks like the controlling speed and the best of these. He is 0-for-2 at the trip, though, so if that bothers you… #4 Summoning Denis offers value. He’s been mostly in starter company this year and should appreciate an easier group today. He ran big when second against starters four back and has excuses in each of his last three: no shot to beat No Love for Juba three back, hung out wide from the outside gate two back, and an off track (he’s 0-for-11 on off tracks) last out… #6 My Boy Clyde has finished ahead of Summoning Denis in two straight but was behind him three back…
RACE 7: Allowance, 6 ½ furlongs
#4 Falcon Blue returns to CT, where he’s 2-for-2, after an off-color visit to Laurel. He’s won locally from on and off the pace, and probably will be a bit off it today… The other “logical” horse is #6 In the Chase, though he may get tangled up as part of the early pace. One who probably will not is #8 Blanches Mule, who caught a really tough group two back (with Juba’s Hat Trick and Pascaline) but has run credibly in more manageable fields…
RACE 8: Claiming $5,000, 4 ½ furlongs
Inclined to try to beat morning line favorite #2 Melancia, dropping from tougher and making her second start in the Collyer barn, but she’ll be on a lot of tickets, and you’ll have to decide how you’d feel about not having her if she were to win… #3 Cameo ran hard last out, dueling another logical contender into submission before trip-sitters came and gathered her up in the lane. Her mid-pack draw doesn’t force her hand quite the way the rail post did last time…
