CT: The Sky Is Falling scores in My Sister Pearl
After going nearly three years without a stakes victory, The Sky Is Falling has now made it two in one season.
The 6-year-old daughter of Cupid rallied from far back to capture Friday night’s $75,950 My Sister Pearl Stakes for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, adding to her win in August’s Sadie Hawkins.

Ridden by Arnaldo Bocachica for owner David M. Raim and trainer Jeff Runco, The Sky Is Falling settled well off the early pace set by Petty Perfect, then launched a four-wide rally on the far turn. She swept past the leaders nearing the sixteenth pole and drew clear to win by 2 ¾ lengths in 1:55.79 for 1 1/8 miles on a fast track.
Petty Perfect shrugged off mid-race pressure to hold a clear lead with a furlong to go but had to settle for second, with Shewonttalktome another 1 3/4 lengths back in third.
Bred in West Virginia by Catherine K. Jennings and Scott Mallory, The Sky Is Falling has now won 13 of 31 career starts and earned $477,650. A stakes winner at both two and three, she failed to win a stake at four or five but has rejuvenated her career this year with two major state-bred victories. She is 4-for-6 on the season.
Runco and Bocachica both doubled on the card.
NOTES Trained by Ronney Brown for Hubert Brown, My Sister Pearl was a multiple stakes winner during her racing career, which concluded in 2002. Overall, she won nine of 30, earning over $157,000. Her most notable accomplishment came in a January 2001 allowance contest, when she set a still-standing track record of 1:43.83 for 1 1/16 miles, winning by 14 3/4 lengths…
