FIRST STAR: MASKEDANDMUMMED. Saturday’s feature at Charles Town was the James and Eleanor Casey Memorial Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at seven furlongs. Off a third-place finish in the Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders’ Classic, Maskedandmummed was sent away as the 3-1 third choice in the seven-horse field. She pressed longshot early leader Truth and Justice most of the way, then worked her way past that rival in the stretch and pulled clear late to win by two lengths, covering the distance in 1.28.49. She improved to 2-for-6 lifetime with career earnings of over 81,000. Antonio Lopez was up for owner/breeder Casey’s Legacy LLC and trainer Ron Sigler.

SECOND STAR: TWISTED RIDE. Parx played host to an open allowance sprint on Tuesday. Twisted Ride, most recently second in the Maryland Million Sprint, snapped a long losing streak when he won by 2 1/2 lengths. Sent off as the 9-10 favorite from the rail, he was pressed on the pace by Bernie’s Mitts. In the stretch, Twisted Ride shook off the challenges of that rival and pulled clear for the win, covering six furlongs in 1.10.82. It was his 10th lifetime win in 36 starts and his first win since June 2024. He’s a homebred for Kasey K Racing Stable, who co-owns him with Michael Day and Final Turn Racing Stable LLC. He’s trained by Michael Moore and ridden by Andy Hernandez.

THIRD STARS: JORGE RUIZ AND YEDSIT HAZLEWOOD. Laurel Park’s top two jockeys both had huge days on Saturday. They registered four wins apiece on the 11-race program. Ruiz rode all of his winners on grass. He guided Beyond Question to victory in race 3 for trainer Mike Trombetta, won race 5 on Michael Matz trainee Lucky Esther, completed the hat trick in the 6th race on Bar Fourteen for trainer Bruce Brown, and sealed the grand slam in race 8 aboard Tough Workout, trained by Sarah Nagle. Hazlewood picked up his first win of the day in race 2, taking it with Fabia for trainer Hammy Smith. He cruised to victory in the 4th race aboard Gary Capuano-trained Let’s Go Lando, guided Sharmin to win in race 10 for trainer Hugh McMahon, and wrapped up the day by winning the 11th race aboard Shootersgottashoot for trainer Claudio Gonzalez. At roughly the halfway point of the season, Ruiz and Hazlewood have each ridden 30 winners, with Ruiz having 105 mounts to Hazlewood’s 138. They’re both nine wins clear of Jevian Toledo in third place.
