DEL: Dazzling Dame sharp in White Clay Creek

One favorite held serve. The other fell short.

A pair of one-mile stakes for two-year-olds Saturday at Delaware Park provided intriguing results.

Respect the Valley’s Dazzling Dame persevered to score her second career stake victory in the $100,000 White Clay Creek Stakes at Delaware Park today.

With Kevin Gomez aboard, the 2-year-old daughter of Girvin prevailed by 1 ½ lengths over the even money favorite, Jumping the Gun with Julio Hernandez. It was another 4 lengths farther back to Miss Call, with Emmanuel Esquivel, in third.

Dazzling Dame returned $7.00 as the second choice in the field of nine. The Maryland-bred trained by Brittany Russell cut early fractions of :49.28 for the half mile and 1:13.87 for the three-quarters of a mile. She rebuffed a challenge from the favorite before completing the one mile in 1:39.52 over a fast main track.

“She relaxed nicely down the backstretch and in the stretch, she responded gamely to hold off the 10 (Jumping the Gun),” said winning rider Kevin Gomez. “Once she relaxed and got comfortable on the backstretch though, I felt confident she was going to win.”

On August 17, Dazzling Dame won the one mile $100,000 Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park. In her next outing, she ran fourth in the one-mile Grade III $300,000 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs on September 13. She raised her record to three wins from four starts with earnings of $158,025.

Two races later Paul Fowler Jr.’s Probably Dreaming notched a decisive victory in the $101,000 Rocky Run Stakes to record his second career stake win at Delaware Park today.

With Carlos Eduardo Lopez aboard, the 2-year-old Delaware Certified son of Improbable won by 4 ½ lengths and returned $2.20 as the 1-9 favorite in the field of seven. G Q Worthy (30-1), with Emmanuel Esquivel, finished second, 2 ½ lengths in front of Empire of Glory (70-1), with Martin Chuan, in third.

Probably Dreaming completed the mile in 1:40.22 over a fast main track.

The Kentucky-bred trained by Gary Capuano remained undefeated in three career outings with earnings of $148,200. On June 14, he broke his maiden going 5 ½ furlongs at Laurel Park in his career debut. He followed with a victory in the six-furlong Delaware bred or certified restricted $100,000 First State Dash Stakes at Delaware Park on September 14.
